Dez deal could be done in next 2 days

In Miami Saturday night there were at least 10 Witten jerseys for every Dez , or any other Cowboy for that matter.

Witten is a great source of pride for Cowboys fans, no doubt. But Dez is becoming the face of the team. It is Romo by default (QB and "rags to riches" story), but Dez is a close second.

No it's not
Recent SB winners have relied on their teams and have not had top 5 receivers
If we had a GM worth a darn I would trade him for 2 1st round picks (but our collective GM would only waste them)

The Eagles will out throw Dallas this year and they have no #1 WR and QB who makes about 750k this year. While these enormous contract make fans happy for about 10 minutes....they significantly reduce Dallas financial flexibility going forward.

He's an excellent player. But I'm sure he is about to get overpaid.

Yep.

This is inevitable. So I won't celebrate an extension. That is guaranteed to happen. I just hope it's as small of a contract as possible.

Are we still talking this foolishness? Are we built like a recent SB winner? If we somehow were to sneak into the big dance you can bet your house that a huge portion of it had to do with the performance of #88. You and your "worth a darn GM" can go out back with that crazy trade talk

There are 32 teams yet only 5 top Wr. Some are stuck with awful qbs. Others on teams with other issues. Pointing out that top 5 WR haven't been on SB champs recently is the new "you can win a SB with Brad Johnson" argument.

That has not been my experience and certainly was not reflected at training camp. Unfortunately for marketing purposes Witten falls closer to the Legends category and the market for new purchases offers little room for growth.

Basically this.

I am not advocating trading Dez but huge WR contracts just don't seem to be worth it. The production difference between "Good" WRs and "Great" WRs isn't big enough to warrant $14-15m contracts.

Yep.

Nevermind...as I have pointed out repeatedly....team's that have won recently generally were getting excellent production from their WR core. You have to be able to throw in this league.

Oh and the Seahawks won with a very cheap QB. Where are the "you don't have to pay a QB top money to win a superbowl memes?"

Trade Dez and watch the offense go into the toilet. He's an automatic touchdown machine in the red zone. We've been having problems in the redzone for years prior to Dez.

Also someone should tell all these teams drafting wide receivers in the first couple of rounds that they should stop since you don't need to spend elite resources at the position. Just keep drafting them. Wait the 3 years it takes for them to acclimate to the league. Get 1 more year on their rookie deal. And start over.

Championship.

Very glad this draft pick has truly panned out. Dez is a phenomenal talent that I hope continues to grow on and off the field. Hopefully, Dallas sees the same success with it's latest picks and they pan out as well as Dez and Tryon.

Keep getting younger and stockpiling blue chips!

I agree 100%.

I'm OK with him getting a big contract. Like RS said, it's going to happen regardless. He's a blue chip player in the league, same with Tyron, and those guys get paid big.

I don't think paying Dez big will prevent Dallas from putting a Super Bowl roster together. That's going to come from drafting, and the team simply needs to do better at it.
