Our front office is playing a risky game waiting for other top 5 receivers to sign before signing Dez. It sounds great to say you don't want to set the market.....but it doesn't sound so great if you let another team set the market way higher than you would. You know Dez will make more than Julio Jones and Thomas if you wait for Atlanta or Denver to say uncle first.

Exactly............what if Denver or Atlanta pays close to CJ money..............do we pay Dez close to CJ money as well?

Like you said, letting another team set the bar is risky if that bar is higher than you are willing to go.

As if you waive a wand and Dez is instantly signed...

Why would Dez want to start the market low though? A market typically starts high and then evens out... In this case though it'll start high and stay high for the elite.

Its called negotiations bro.............Dallas works out a deal first with Dez instead of letting Denver or Atlanta set the market. What is your strategy, just wait till Julio Jones signs for CJ money?

You know what happens next, that contract Julio Jones just signed becomes the baseline Dez and his agent work from, meaning they want more than Julio and CJ.

That is why it is risky to let other teams set the market, because once the market is set, that becomes the baseline and you have to pay more than that. Or you franchise Dez one more season and then let him walk.

Didn't say he would start it low. What is defined as high changes if Denver or Atlanta offer more than CJ got. By sitting and waiting you are leaving other teams to determine where the market is.

Not as if that's the case at all.
We could have extended Dez before he got involved with Roc Nation. We could have signed Murray cheaper before the season last year also. We waiting and it cost us. Now we waited to resign Dez and it's going to cost us also.

He got involved with RocNation after firing his agent.

Why do players fire their agents?

Also a very respected agent is handling Dez's contract negotiations now.

I would imagine Dez was seduced by Roc Nation while still with his previous agent. You assume he wasn't courted by Roc Nation before firing his other agent? Come on man.
Him firing his old agent and moving to Roc nation doesn't prove that we couldn't have signed him under his old agent last year. Unless you know something otherwise (highly doubtful).
When Dez signed with Roc nation his price went up. We cant know if Dez would have signed last year...None of this changes the main point.
If we wait for another team to set the market we are taking the chance that they set it higher than we would.
Dez will want more than the other free agent receivers guaranteed.
