I wish everyone would look at an unlikely comparison to what would happen to this team if Dez left. Look at what happened to the Oakland A's this year when they shipped their team leader, Yoenis Cespedes to Boston. They completely fell apart. Why? TEAM CHEMISTRY. He was the team leader, just like Dez . They were the best team in MLB until the day he left. Their next games they went 10-35 without him. Dez is the most important part of the future of this team. Tony will be gone in a year or two. Who knows if DM will be here, but perhaps AD will be. We need Dez to be here and be happy about being here to help usher in who will be the future franchise QB. I don't think we will be talking Dez contract much longer. I believe it's very close to being a moot subject.

I think everyone wants him resigned...but at what cost. There is more risk with Dez than other dynamic players in NFL. Dallas will just be recovering from over-paying past players this off-season. The last thing they need to be doing to putting themselves back to square one with dead money cap hits. The contract needs to be fair for both and there absolutely needs to be protection in contract for Cowboys. Dez is also not above the cowboys regardless of his trademark or his agents. If Dallas decides he gets franchised he needs to handle it like Spencer did.

If Dez left, it would mean we would have to completely rebuild. We are not going anywhere without him.

As much as the rose colored glass wearing fans wont admit it, Williams, Beasley, and Harris, are all just a very slight compliment to Dez, and would sink this ship so fast as our main WR threats.

I do not buy into any of this stuff about Dez being a "risk"...certainly no more than any other young player finishing his rookie contract. He has been extremely proactive in trying to clean up his image even though most of it is sensationalist garbage from sensationalist reporters. He is one of the leaders of this team now, and will be THE leader once Romo and Witten retire. I truly believe Dez is a good kid whose heart is in the right place and that he wants to do things the right way. He isn't perfect, but what crimes has he committed?

I love Dez and I do believe he's one of the most important pieces on this team.....but at the same time i'm not going to assume we'd completely fall a part without him. You get rid of Romo or that offensive line? I could see us falling apart.

You get Rid of Romo and get a decent replacement through the draft, keep Dez. We are still in Good Shape.

Keep Romo, or draft an Elite QB. Minus Dez, With this group of WR's we are doomed.

I would not put ridiculous money into the wr position. Build the defense starting with the front 4 and spend wisely on skill positions. Look at the success Brady and Manning have with lesser talented wideouts.

We'd be ok without Dez, probably around average for our WR core as a whole. Romo has also made mediocre WRs look really good, L.Robinson, M.Austin, ect; So he doesn't necessarily need a stud, but it definitely does help.

If Dez is asking 14+ million a year, and will not budge on that number, then I simply wouldn't give him a long term deal. I don't think it's that big of an issue though, Dez is probably the most passionate player on the team about the Cowboys, he want's to be here for life. There's 0.00% chance that Dez wont be here next year, if he doesn't sign a long term deal we'll just franchise tag him. As for the other triplet, this seriously could be Murray's last year. I hope we find a way to sign both without breaking the bank, but I'm sure only one walks away with a long term contract.

Why? Says who?

Well if you put it that at using your example, if we kept Romo and drafted a elite receiver? I don't think we'd be doomed.

Well put......you are forgetting 1 thing, it's rare to find a WR of Dez's talent. You can get an Above average QB, and Dez can make him look great.

You are also forgetting, unlike Dez. Romo is 1 good clean back shot(Pause) away from being out for good. Not to mention his age.

I see what you're saying and we both know that Dez will be here and retire as a Cowboy, but at the same time if Dez were to say leave and sign with another team then Dallas better have a plan to replace that production and it's highly unlikely that they will be drafting in the top 10 anyway but if I'm Jones I would definitely consider trading up to grab Alabama's Amari Cooper pair him with Tony throwing the ball and that would be a nightmare but that is a bit utopian on my part.

the police have been called to Dez house 6 times in 4 years. Thats not normal. I don't mind people disagreeing over contract numbers or who should or shouldn't be traded but to sit here and act like he is like every other young player in league is just wrong. He has issues and will always have issues from his well documented upbringing. Dez has to take some accountability that his past actions will have an effect on contract numbers.
