Dez-Wilcox fight. Any chance it was planned?

It wasn't that big of a hit for Dez to get that wound up about. Dez immediately went for a head-butt but didn't really connect. Wilcox immediately started swing wildly. A few minutes later Dez was praising Wilcox for the intensity. Wilcox blamed himself for a cheap shot.

Back when Jimmy was here, he would get James Washington to intentionally start a fight to get the other players fired up. I think that Washington picked a fight with Irvin at least once.

I seriously doubt it with all the injuries the team has sustained the last couple of years.

The same thing occurred to me, but I rejected it as conspiracy theory. Something about Dez's comments about needing to see more of that sort of thing re: both Wilcox and Scandrick put me in mind of it.

With Jason baiting Webb in camp earlier, and some of the stuff we've seen early from the DBs here, it wouldn't shock me. You bring up a good point with the James Washington stuff, too.

In short, I think it probably wasn't planned, but it could have been. It was a pretty good hit by Wilcox, though.

Garrett get a fight started to up the intensity? Doubt it.

I bet he pops Marinelli in the chin before camp is all over. Marinelli's gonna be all over him like a drunk guy on a pale red bear.

Looked legit to me. We need some guys that play with a chip on their shoulders - it's been missing for a while.

Normally when you see these type of fights/spats in training camp, Tempers are already running wild and flaring up between the Offense & Defense so if I was a betting man, I would say that this was probably the case.... Last week the Defense didn't look so great and I am pretty sure the Offensive players were reminding them.

Ticket guys were saying this morning that Nate and Haley talked to the defense the night before and told them they had to be a lot meaner and that they weren't here to make friends. I'm betting that's where it came from.

I thought it could be for a second but Dez is in a contract year why chance getting hurt, and there is no way Garrett would risk losing his best weapon

That wasn't planned, but all the jaw-jacking up to that point between Scandrick and Dez was.

David Moore said last night that Scandrick told him so.

Garrett said last night, and mickey spagnola this morning, told a story about James Washington leveling alvin Harper in TC.
Garrett said that's the way Jimmy's teams practiced, being physical, and he want his teams to have that same intensity. not the fighting, but the intensity.
He said he addressed the team about it after it happened.

Mickey said James Washington after the hit on Harper, as well as a few others....they nicknamed him...Drive By....LOL..

Irvin was saying the same thing based off of his tour of our camp: that the defense wasn't aggressive enough.

Anyway, I guess I am pleased that it was Wilcox who stepped up. The guy's got the athleticism to improve our S play if it comes together for him. Signature plays in scrimmages and preseason can't hurt.

Do you remember when Parcell's came to the Cowboys, next thing you know Emmitt is released. No fault of Emmitt but with a veteran with the skins on the wall that he had it would be hard for Bill to install his philosophy. I think the same thing could be said for Ware and Lee being gone, it may allow some of the younger players to step up into the void of leadership. Hopefully some of the "dogs" will surface and lead this defense, sounds like it's already started.

Between the players, maybe. Likely they just respect each other too much. Where you regret it as soon as you throw the first punch kinda thing...similar to when you swing on a good friend.

I think I mentioned in another thread that what got Dez heated up was that while he was on the ground Wilcox had his leg up over Dez' head and almost looked like he was going to stomp him...all while talking trash. I don't know if the leg thing was intentional, but you can see why Dez didn't like it too much.
