I know its a HUGE risk but I think hes a smart dude and would stay here because he knows he's got a legit shot at getting some playing time.

Yes. I think he can be taken off IR - but then he has to be sent they waivers and other teams can claim the player.
Then if no claim be allowed to rejoin the team.

But a rule offacinado could clarify that.
