Here's why I think he makes it. Austin and Stanback are going to cancel each other out and one of them is a goner.

I see the WR spots falling like this.

Owens, Crayton, Glenn or a trade for big name, Hurd, Stanback and Amendola.

If the big trade happens then Glenn is gone ASAP because he's either the #2 in Dallas or he's gone.

I don't know why it would be Stanback. I think he has immunity from being cut for at least 1 year, maybe 2.

If it came down to it, I think its going to be Hurd and Austin who are up for the chopping block and if Austin can show some hands in camp, Hurd will be the one on the way out.

Amendola is so quick on his cuts and he gets really good seperation.

Man, the kid runs great routes.

This is why I believe Hurd is the odd man out. He doesn't do these things very well. JMO, of course.

Hurd must have done something better than Austin last season because he was the #3 WR with the same coaching staff.

Hurd also had more special teams tackles then Austin last season.

Hurd catches the ball, Austin drops it.

Austin runs faster and that's about it.

It depends on his performance in the preseason games.

If he outperforms Austin, then Dallas might be forced to cut Austin. Amendola may not make it past waivers to get to the practice squad like Matt Moore last season.

How is he going to outperform Austin? They don't even play the same position or do the same things. This little elf will need to be a slot player. Austin isn't that type at all.

If Austin out performs both Stanback and Amendola (which I doubt), then Amendola is a goner. No way we're cutting stanback after only 1 season when we knew he was a project and injured.

 even though they're different types of recievers, one can still out perform the other.

That still doesn't matter in terms of winning a roster spot. Jerhame Urban outperformed more than a few of our WRs last preseason. I still saw him move on.

interesting point.Since amendola plays as a slot WR ,will he be on the outside looking in because we have a established WR(crayton) at that spot?

That's a good point. Amendola is going to have to rely on the coaches thinking he's the right fit. If they think they can utilize his skillset, I think he's got a real chance at unseating one or two guys one the roster. Personally, I hope they do. While the Welker comparisons are inevitable and annoying to some, there is some real usefulness in that type of player if you can make it happen.

BTW, Urban seemed to have a pretty good year out there in the desert.

While they both play the slot, they aren't the same type of slot receiver...if that makes any sense. Crayton's hands make him a serviceable slot guy. Amendola's quickness and natural ability would be his niche.

...and if Glenn can't come back, Crayton is our #2...and we have no established slot guys left.

Jerhame Urban- 6 catches for 36 yards 0 TDs

Isiah Stanback- 4 catches for 39 yards 1 TD

Miles Austin- 5 catches for 46 yards 0 TDs

who did he out perform as a reciever (not sure if you meant as a returner or not)?

A backup receiver on an NFL team has to do more than just run routes and catch the football.

Tell me you are not this naive in regards to how securing a roster spot in the NFL works.

Yep. With Glenn in he's #4 and that's always up for grabs. I am not one to put much stock into stats unless one's starting. Just sayin'.

The wildcard is that Jerry is looking for players that can contribute this year. I think it is safe to say that Stanback has a free pass. Even though Hurd and Austin have more experience, Amendola may prove to have a better chance of impacting the offense than either Hurd or Austin. If that is the case, either Hurd or Austin will be shown the door.

yeh, they're just trying to keep the white man down, poor amendola:lmao2:

I'd say all 3 were a push as far as performance when you consider special teams. But Stanback and Miles had more potential (FWIW I wanted Urban over Austin).

If the "Hard Knocks" folks have any sense (and I think they do), we'll see a lot of focus at WR for this training camp. Outside of some questions concerning the pecking order at CB, where else on this team are there any real question marks?

The whole WR position thing is so interesting. What will make the difference? Speed? Hands? Routes? Potential? Philosophy? I'm expecting to learn a lot about the position by the time the season starts. I may send an email to Breer and JJT to encourage them to focus on this.

I thought Miles Austin showed more potential last season but he dropped a fair number of very catchable passes. Can "hands" be taught? I'm not sure they can and, without better hands, Austin will not progress.

I remain extremely doubtful Terry Glenn can be effective. I do not doubt his heart or his desire and I really want him to succeed. I think his knee will not permit it, and the Cowboys should move on unless there are no other options.

So, with a demonstrated complete lack of knowledge or understanding and without further ado, here is my list (in no order):

1. T.O.
2. Stanback (gets a pass for his first training camp regardless of how he performs)
3. Crayton
4. Hurd
5. Amendola
6. Austin

If we get a vet Hurd or Austin will not make the team. We'll see.

I wouldn't be shocked if both were left off the final roster.

Gosh, I can see the posts now...

"Let's trade Austin for a 3rd."
