Did Aikman Ever Use The Shotgun?

I wish they would do a lot more of it, as to not make it too obvious what we're doing. That Cowboys team from '92 through '95 was all under center. All the defense had to go by as to whether it was a pass or run was down and distance.

Its interesting when teams stop doing things that work, that no one figured out yet. I recall that enlongated draw Romo used to do with Murray that would confuse ppl and then Garrett like abandoned it one year (if memory serves correct)....I think that year before Zeke was here.

Great find, I remember that from when I was like 13 years old or something...James Dixon went nuts that game - he was such a fun kick returner.

I was only 11 or 12. If I recall correctly the Cowboys tried moving Dixon to running back the year after. Of course Emmitt was drafted in 1990 along with Alexander Wright to return kicks and that was it for Dixon.

The delayed draw!!! I loved that play. I don't know why they eliminated it. We had better run plays years ago.

Got into a debate with a guy at the office, I dont recall ever once seeing Troy taking a snap from the shotgun, am I wrong did I miss it?

I'm pretty sure Chan Gailey was supposed to implement it more when he was here

Yeah but I don’t think it was used until Gailey got here.

He had some weirdo formation where Ernie Mills was in the backfield as some sort of quasi option QB.

I heard Aikman discuss that on a radio show several years after the fact. He didn’t use names but it was obvious. He said the coach approached him about using a “third down QB.” Troy told him if that’s the case just play him on first and second down also.

Aikman hated shotgun. It’s why Gailey was fired.

By late 1990s standards Chan Gailey's offenses were fun to watch. Aikman had solid numbers too when he was healthy.

Jerry fired Gailey too fast.

Blame Troy for Galley being fired.

Wow good find and now suddenly I do remember that play. Interesting seeing that, his shotgun seems deeper than usual and he still took a 7 step drop after he got the ball, looks sort of awkward. I wonder if he ever had any college experience with it a UCLA.

I think Jerry felt like he had to recapture a piece of the glory years by hiring Campo. Just an opinion though.

Aikman hated every HC coach that wasn’t named Johnson.
