Did anyone catch Jerry on with Norm?

Caught part of it in the car, but my reception was really bad for some reason. The parts I caught were very interesting, though... Sounded like Jerry was talking about the possible coaching exodus. If I was hearing it right, it almost sounded like he was saying that Wade should have a chance to hire his own guys. He said Wade was very good at teaching his system to new coaches. So while he did offer Bowles and Paul P extensions, it sounded like he wouldn't be too sorry if they did leave. And that he did expect them to go, though he didn't say that.

Anyone hear it? Like I say, I was only getting bits and pieces. Trick?

Yeah I did.

He sounded pretty upbeat.

He gave mixed signals on flozell, said ken hamlin was our best safety this year and sounded like he was the top priority to be resigned.

and it did sound like the offers to the coaches were formalities. He said they are getting everything and everyone ready to leave and go to the senior bowl and that they would be talking to many coaches while they are there.

I took it the way you did, he trusts wade to teach new coaches his way and trusts his defensive intelligence to be passed down to new hand picked guys by wade.

He did speak highly of free, marten and mcquistan which is what I found most interesting.

Honestly-I would prefer Wade to bring in his own guys.

I liked Bowles and Pasquerlli(sp), but they ARE Parcells guys, and likely didn't mesh well with Wade's system.

Interesting - I'd love for us to be able to snag guys like John Pagano and Emmitt Thomas.

I don't know if these are his "guys" but they have worked together in the past.

I believe Thomas was the Eagles DC when Ray Rhodes was coaching them.

Nice to have a former assistant from our division, even if it was many moons ago.

That has a lot of merit to it. I'm sure everything went well behind closed doors, but a HC always wants his guys.

Is Pagano available? That's who Wade supposedly would've liked for DC, but I thought he was at San Fran. Unless he got released.

And I forgot those parts, theebs, but I took it the same way you did. He sounded lukewarm on Flozell coming back -- though that could just be him playing poker -- and more enthusiastic about wanting Hamlin back. (Which I hope is true because that's how I'd do it.)

And yeah, the Senior Bowl is where tons of coaches meet up and are hired every year. I can't wait to see who we get to replace the guys that leave.

If Jones intends to let Adams go, then I hope we at least acquire another veteran LT as insurance.

I like Free and McQuistin but I don't see how we can be confident they can both play the most important position on the offensive line with just a few plays of real NFL action under their belts.

While I would like to see Flo Franchised, Jerry must be thinking that $10 or $12 Million is too much and rather then sign him for 3 or 4 years just let him walk.

Its extremely risky, but we drafted the guys and now it is time to play them. I am sure mcquistan can play there decently if free was a train wreck, and who knows maybe marten will play well there in the spring and camp, I think he is rt or a lg in the future though.

and dont forget the dreaded reality that leonard davis can slide over....that would be a nightmare though.

To some people it comes across as excuse-making, but I think it's legitimate to say that a head coach would be better off with his own guys. I think that all of these coaches are good, and I think they are professional. I also think that the staff will have better chemistry, if you will, with new guys who have been brought in by Wade.

Don't count on a veteran LT. I like the idea, but I bet they feel like they could move Bigg Davis to LT if the young guys aren't ready yet and put Procter at RG.
If we don't re-sign Flozell, I hope one of the young tackles are ready because I like Davis right where he is.

I trust babe laufenberg over any analyst or reporter etc...

He raved about free at camp last year. I trust that opinion.

free was an all american in 05 and 06.

Its risky, just like folk was risky.

...being able to replace high-priced players like Flo with high-quality younger guys is key to us maintaining a place among the NFL's elite. Teams that do this well (NE, PHI, IND, etc...) are consistently good year in/year out (barring injuries to QB).

If people complain about Kosier at guard, wait until they see Proctor try to do it. He just simply isn't starting material.

I think most people could watch Free in the preseason last year and see that he had talent.

Left tackle is the most pressure packed position on the line though and it is a lot to ask of a young player, particularly one drafted in the fourth round.

If you want a quality LT, chances are you have to acquire them with a high draft choice. We would be extremely fortunate to get one with two second day draft choices like with did with Free and McQuistin.

Think about it. Undrafted free agent QB throwing to seventh round pick (Crayton) being protected by another second day pick (Free, McQuistin). If that is successful, we had one special scouting department.

The young guys have to play at some point. Yea, I know LT is a pretty damn important position, but we didn't draft these guys to accumulate splinters in their *****. We can't afford to pay Flo $10-$12 million per year. It would eat up our cap space and we have to get a cover corner, young fast WR, and a speedy RB.

I hope Babe is right...but two names keep echoing in my mind: Rob Petiti and ____________ (anybody remember the other all pro??? and yes, I'm being sarcastic for those too thick to pick up on it)
