Did anyone else hear Norm this morning talking about the 6th we got from the Jets

with the Jets in total rebuild, I'm surprised they didn't move him. they've been trying since last year. no one is giving a 3rd for that guy. they are not going to sign him long term, so I guess the hope is he signs a big deal and the comp. pick is more than they could get with a draft pick.

This is one of the main reasons I'm an advocate of trading for him even on a rental. If we didn't resign him, don't we get a comp pick?

the traded pick + one we get back should essentially be a wash.

He said we where trying not only to move up to get their 6th but also we where trying to get Sheldon Richardson but they wanted a 3rd. I'm asking if anyone else heard this because I hadn't heard that.

the cowboys have been connected with sheldon richardson numerous times now.
lets hope when there is smoke there is more.

Reports are that he and Brandon Marshall destroyed the locker room chemistry last year. A 3rd is way too much for a risk like that.

the jets messed up a lot of good players.
wilkerson is also unhappy and supposedly doing the same things.
they pissed off the QB off a good season.

if he is good, you can franchise him during his remaining prime, which is much cheaper than a large FA contract.

I'm actually not certain the issue was the draft pick. I think the problem was that we wanted to be able to renegotiate Richardson's contract and the Jets could not get him to move on that. Richardson wants to play out this next season and then hit FA. He probably believes that if he hits the open market, he is going to make a lot more money.

No way a 1 year rental is worth a third. We can sign him next year for only money if you want him that bad.
I don't want him, but I'm just curious. If we could sign him next year as you state, why couldn't we RE-SIGN him if we traded for him? Why would it just be a 1 year rental?

The difference between your way and my way is 1 year of his services and a third round pick.

But that's not what you said when you mentioned a 1 year rental. That implies he'd be gone after playing only 1 year.

Also, the trade would take out any competition for signing him, which would drive up the price. But, I digress. I already said I don't want him.

Yes, a 1 year rental is worth a third. Because if he plays well in 2017, but we don't re-sign him, you get a 4th round comp pick if someone signs him for a big deal. Or, he plays well in 2017, and we decide to keep him long-term, and the third was worth it.

The reason we wont do it is because he's not a RKG. And the reason the Jets wont do it for less than a 3rd is because they'll get a comp pick if they keep him this year.

I think the truth is that Richardson is going to sign with whomever offers the most money. The market for him could honestly go either way but I suspect that somebody will pull out the Greenbacks and he is going to get paid. I don't know that I would want to be in a bidding war for Richardson. Really good player but it seems like he might be a bit of a cancer. Not sure it's worth the price.

Btw, I would not like seeing the Skins get him. He's still a very good player, who is playing for his next contract.

I think they'll break and trade him for a 4th or 5th with incentives. He doesn't wanna be there and they don't want him there. He'll be gone

True but it hasn't really worked for us.

Although things feel a little bit different with Dak in charge...

Actually, right now I think Dak will be somewhat of a liability until he really develops into what he will become. Hopefully, by adding Switzer and giving him another toy over the middle, it'll help him.
