Did anyone know this about Meredith?

I don't know how much credence I would put in that article since they got a lot of things wrong.

For instance:

Meredith started almost all of the 1963 season with LeBaron only playing in spots. Eddie retired after that year and Meredith was the fulltime starter beginning in 1964.

We didn't go to the playoffs in 1965 but in 1966.

Meredith retired after the 1968 playoff debacle against the Browns so he wasn't around in 1969. That game was played on Dec 21 in Cleveland and Meredith retired shortly afterwards. It might have been after the 1st of the year but I don't think so, if I recall it was within a few days.

I'm still not convinced that we traded for Meredith. I know we had to trade future draft picks to the Commanders for the rights to Eddie LeBaron (who wasn't even playing at the time) but I do not believe we did for Meredith.

IIRC, they didn't have any playoffs back then as there was only two divisions and at the end of the season, the top team in each division played for the championship and the second team in each division play in what was called the Runnerup Bowl with the winner having to coach the College All-Stars when they played the world champs the first game of the following pre-season, which was six games.

Oh, yeah, the football was square back then and easy to put a spiral on but hard to control direction on sideline routes. :lmao:

I lived in Paris, Texas for a few months in 1980 (the hottest summer on record, we were there from June - Sept, DOH!).

I miss the beach in SoCal but I miss the Sierra Nevadas even more. The mountains here (Blue Ridge Mtns in NC) are nice but they just don't compare.

It's funny, people here tell me I'm still near the beach. They must be from Iowa or something. 2 hours away isn't what I call close, we used to ride our skateboards to the beach when I was a kid.

Paris isn't that far from Denison (my home town)......At one time, several years ago, Denison & Paris were in the same conference and played each other in football.

I now live in the Rio Grande Valley of Tex.....45min from the beach. I enjoy four wheeling up South Padre Island.....but I still yearn for the mountains. When I retire......This Old man is going WEST!!!

I had an apartment about a mile from the beach in SoCal with my girlfriend (who is now my wife) but that was about as close as I could afford. The rents skyrocket the closer you get to the water there.

That was 27 years ago so I can only imagine what they run now!

try at least a million

well, that depends on where you live really, if you're out in the middle of nowhere by the beach, it shouldn't cost as much

I was looking through old years at DraftHistory.com and saw that the Bears drafted Don Meredith in the 3rd round in 1960.

My understanding was that we had signed Meredith to a "personal services" contract prior to the draft.

Anyway, I wasn't sure if this was a bit of trivia that somehow had escaped my notice until now or if they might have screwed up.

Can anyone shed some light on this?
The Bears drafted Don Meredith and traded him to us for future draft picks.

I had to eat.

I forget, you are in another time zone.

Man did we ever get screwed as an expansion franchise or what. No draft, we get the scrubs the other teams don't want, and have to trade away most of our future picks just to field a team.

And after all that, we are STILL the most successful franchise since 1960!

Considering the way we had to start off it is amazing that it ONLY took 6 years to get to .500 and one more to make it to the playoffs.

It sickens me when I see teams like the Browns and Texans, who had all the advantages coming in, not being able to field a winner. Losers!

3 other time zones from where you are.

It amazes me that 7 players from that 1960 team had at least one Pro Bowl or All Pro season.
