Did we really rebuild?

Yes and no. We have more talent on both OL and DL. But none of that matters if your QB and No. 1 WR go down without adequate depth at those positions.

this is a failure of the front office imo.they thought Weeden could play when everybody knew he was the worst QB to play the game. They also failed to draft WRs to make sure we dont falter If Dez goe down, look at Gb ,they draft a Wr every year and we have thrown a token 3rd RD pick on Twill who cant step up to be your top guy.The coming draft we have to make sure we draft a QB and WR who are our future .

But isn't that just 20/20 hindsight? Pretty much everyone thought that receiver was set when the season started. And with Dez in there it pretty much is. He makes the rest of them that much better. Not to mention if Romo were playing. What receiver do we take in the last draft that helps and what player do we not get because we took that receiver?
Most lauded this last draft as one of our best in recent memory. And the last few drafts being pretty good as well. Granted. We could have taken a RB instead of Green. But in the long run. Even that decision might end up being the better move. And what QB could they have drafted in the last 2 one 3 years would now be helping? And what player do we give up to get that QB and how does that effect things? What free agent QB was out there that would be providing any more than what we get from Weeden or Cassell?
You can't draft replacements for every position. Eventually. If you lose enough starters. Like your QB,best WR and best defensive back. It's going to hurt you. I don't care how well you draft.
Making excuses is always frowned upon. But sometimes there are legitimate reasons for a season going south. And this is one of those seasons if ever there was one!

Yes. They're about to be a half game ahead of a Dallas team absent their two best players and already got stepped on once this season.

look at their roster. they have better defensive talent than us. i'd take their front 7, their safeties, and their corners over us right now...where do I sign?

as for offense, we have the advantage on the oline and QB. they have the advantage at rb and wr core (they don't have a Dez but they're deeper).

special teams...beasley vs sproles?

cmon man we need to stop falling for this yearly narrative that this team is soooo talented.

Yes Dallas has rebuilt to answer the question. But...the rebuild is not complete until they own both sides of the line of scrimmage. Only way it happens is if Dallas can stop the run consistently

i am going to lay this partially at the feet of Marinelli who continues to start his Golden cock who gets run over routinely out there.

This is what happens when you refuse to invest in the most important position in sports... QB. The fact that we haven't invested a decent draft pick in one since Stephen McGee is just beyond me. Our arrogance in thinking that Romo is going to live forever has finally caught up to us.

Wade Phillips turned us around in a year too and how did they workout?

Thank you .. this is exactly the issue many, for one reason or another, cannot comprehend. The one-year success you are looking for is not what Garret is planning for. The guy is building for a dominant Cowboys era. Also he is not only building a team. He is building a CULTURE, or re-bulding the Landry and JJ culture of top of league, class of the league organization....

Their WRs aren't in the same area code. Their QB isn't either. Those are the two most important offensive skill positions. Special teams isn't only returns and I'd say Bailey swings that towards Dallas. Their corners suck as much as ours but we're missing our best corner. Front seven I think is a push.

RB and Safety are the only clear advantage IMO and the gap at QB is more than enough to overcome that.

I never thought Twill will be able to step up.He is good WR but he needs to be working against the no 2 or no 3 Cb,he cant separation against a good CB nor is he a good catcher. The weeden thing was just a monumental mistake especially with Romos injury history.

agree to disagree. my point is this team isn't significantly more talented than our divisional opponents. it's debatable, especially on defense.

Not partially..he is the one that believes the position means nothing. Kiffin and Dungy clearly thought it meant something. Bothers me but...

Sure we rebuilt. But you can't win giving away 14 points and starting your 3rd QB of the year.

Exactly. Wade did it with his defense and O'Quinn is doing it with his. But like you stated, Garrett attempted to build a culture. People can debate whether or not he's a good coach but ask yourself is this teams culture better than it was before he got it? And if you say no, you're lying to yourself.

This whole abstract idea of "culture" and this mystical long term rebuild is for the birds. At some point, you need more than 1 winning season in 5 years. And anyone who thinks a team can build a long term dynasty in today's FA driven NFL is kidding themselves.
