Did we try to address the WR issues in the NFL Draft?

The club admitted that they dropped the ball with not properly fulfilling the WR role last offseason,
preferring to rely upon scrub vet FA James Washington (who apparently they liked during his draft class time) and rookie Jalen Tolbert.
while in case awaiting Mike Gallup' ACL recovery - to which he never really return to previous form at season's end.

- WR situation so badly that it down to counting upon Noah Brown to help save us.
We were extremely lucky Cee Dee Lamb is so durable and never got hurt.

- The great turning point this offseason was the trade for speedy WR Brandon Cooks,..and apparently we brought in quite a few WR prospects to visits and
meeting at NFL combine ...but we still did not address WR until the final pick .

- Are we gonna depend upon what's left on 2022 practice quad ..and what we bring in as undrafted rookies as our 20230WR depth addresses ?

Which draft pick gets on the field over our current receivers? I mean if we wanted to draft our 4th/5th option?

Lamb/Cooks/Gallup is a top 5-8 trio

Wouldn't that be strongly assuming current receiver Tolbert makes the team this camp ?

Simi Fehoko seized a roster spot,, but he has flat shown Nada ... and Noah Brown's exit to FA has opened up roster spot

There should be new room for newcomers on the depth chart.

I said it before the draft and still stand by it......not one in this draft WR could beat out Lamb, Cooks, or healthy Gallup IMO. Also, the fact they brought in 5 tells me they were having trouble finding a good fit.

Truth is, we have no clue what plan they will implement to maximize the WRs on the roster. Gallup had a down year and Tolbert did not meet expectations. Cooks will help, however, Mike's plan has not yet been revealed. Time to panic because they did not address WR? Not yet.

Honestly I think they are solving the WR depth issue via the TE situation. If you're playing a lot of 2 & 3 TE sets you don't need to be 5 studs deep at WR.
This could be the plan. Once again, we have no clue what they plan to do with the passing offense, the TEs will be a big part of it.

We addressed WR with the trade for Cooks and we drafted a WR. If Gallup is better than he was last season and we don’t suffer any major injuries, we should be in pretty good shape at the position.

I see Tolbert in the 4th slot.. assuming Gallup is healthy and back to form he’s no slouch 3rd option. Given the options were down to the 5th+ rated guys in the draft, I don’t think they beat out Gallup in year 1. Especially with the heavy amount of slot receivers coming out of this years draft (Lambs slot). Both Cooks and Gallup are both outside guys and those were extremely limited in this years draft. Quentin & Mingo?

Really only the top 2-3 receivers in the draft have the ability to contribute right away and that’s in a stud draft (chase, waddle). This draft was no where near that level.

Can we assume none of the starters will not be hurt at some point his season.

Gallup for one has had injury and durability issues, .but luckily we had guys like Cedrick Wilson to step in and play admirably in his place.

Where's that Cedrick Wilson guy now ?

For what he is , we were extremely lucky to have Noah Brown overachieve and play well as he did - as he is normally at the very back of the depth chart.
But injuries will force us a different , difficult situation in a heart beat ?

So very key and critical to have depth guys that can play right away ..

What are these glaring WR issues you speak of?

Most of the league would love to have our "problems"

Having said that, the offseason is still fairly young.

To me, it's not about finding starters to beat out Lamb Cooks and Gallup ... it's about having that Cedrick Wilson type depth guy that can step in when injuries hit home

- And Gallup tends to be is one of those guys that tends to get hurt in some matter or another.

- I honestly did not expect a WR very early in the NFL draft, but in the same sense we drafted a cedrick wilson developmental guy in the late rounds, and considering the number of
WR prospects they did bring in per 30 visit, i did expect a late round developmental, depth guy.

- Remember WR depth issue got so bad that we had to resort looking on the streets for vet WR help .. ala Ty Hilton.

Heading into training camp Lamb, Cooks, Gallup = WR1, WR2, WR3.
Fehoko, Tolbert, Turpin, Houston, Drummond, Callaway, Brooks will battle for the 4-5-6 positions on the 53 or practice squad roles.

I think WR position is fine.

Lamb, Cooks, Gallup.

Yes gallup was awful last year but he was coming back from the ACL. It’s not uncommon for players to struggle the first year back from that. I think it’s reasonable to believe he will be back to normal this year. He is also now the 3rd receiver, which is more reasonable for him.

Your 4th and 5th are Tolbert and Fehoko. They haven’t shown anything yet. But it’s possible they continue to improve into decent 4th and 5th receivers.
