Did we try to address the WR issues in the NFL Draft?

Tolbert is a total and complete bust
WR is probably the 2nd most difficult position to transition to from college.

At least give him another year. Dallas didn’t replace him so hopefully that was a sign that they have some confidence in him.

tolbert....gallup.....my lord no wonder they made you a mod. rainbows and fairy tales all over the place

I have no expectations for Tolbert. Whatever he contributes will be a bonus. It is too early to give up on Gallup though. He has earned a year removed from injury to see if he can still play. As far as a wr3 option with upside that's not bad imo.

I gave this draft a B+ and really liked what they did. If Gallup returns to peak form and he and Cooks stay healthy it may not matter but I still wish they would have taken a WR earlier. So here is my version of a redraft with the notable WRs we passed on each round

R1P26 for the record, Mazi Smith was a great pick makes the whole defense better
Jonathan Mingo Draft Grade 6.27
R2P57 Schoonmaker will be a big upgrade to Dalton Schultz blocking right away receiving by the end of the season
Marvin Mims Jr. Draft Grade 6.28
Tank Dell Draft Grade 6.3
Jalin Hyatt Draft Grade 6.5
Cedric Tillman Draft Grade 6.38
Josh Downs Draft Grade 6.44
R3P90 DeMarvion Overshown I wouldn't be surprised if DQ has him spy Hurts when we play the eagles, a lot people called him their favorite pick of our draft
Charlie Jones Draft Grade 6.17
Tyler Scott Draft Grade 6.35
R5P169 Asim Richards I really like this pick, he needs upper body strength and some technique work but he might come in play right away
A.T. Perry Draft Grade 6.26
Elijah Higgins Draft Grade 6.20
C.J. Johnson Draft Grade 6.16

Conclusion: I probably wouldn't have changed the picks they made but I'm higher on Schoonmkaer that some people. He will turn out to be a plus receiver with some development which is what the WRs we could have taken would need also. Jalen Moreno-Cropper is a 4.4 guy and has a good chance to make the team.

I said it before the draft and still stand by it......not one in this draft WR could beat out Lamb, Cooks, or healthy Gallup IMO. Also, the fact they brought in 5 tells me they were having trouble finding a good fit.
Was t this WR class generally deemed to be weak across the board?

I think Mims would have potentially been a better addition than the tight end. But time will tell on that.

Added Cooks. Gallup will be healthy. Tolbert will be ready.

3 big steps further than we were last year.
This. Also, our TEs have a full year of NFL experience now and we add a 2nd round pick to add to the mix.

We might see Deuce play a small role in the passing attack, possibly Turpin as well.

Weak may be a bit strong but there were no sure-fire elites ....in other words, the last couple of drafts had at least a few WRs I would have taken over Cooks and Gallup in a heartbeat. Notice the first one didn't come off the board until the 20th pick ( Seahawks ).

The club admitted that they dropped the ball with not properly fulfilling the WR role last offseason,
preferring to rely upon scrub vet FA James Washington (who apparently they liked during his draft class time) and rookie Jalen Tolbert.
while in case awaiting Mike Gallup' ACL recovery - to which he never really return to previous form at season's end.

- WR situation so badly that it down to counting upon Noah Brown to help save us.
We were extremely lucky Cee Dee Lamb is so durable and never got hurt.

- The great turning point this offseason was the trade for speedy WR Brandon Cooks,..and apparently we brought in quite a few WR prospects to visits and
meeting at NFL combine ...but we still did not address WR until the final pick .

- Are we gonna depend upon what's left on 2022 practice quad ..and what we bring in as undrafted rookies as our 20230WR depth addresses ?
Yea man, we drafted a 7th rounder.

Aren’t you pumped?
