Did we try to address the WR issues in the NFL Draft?

To me, it's not about finding starters to beat out Lamb Cooks and Gallup ... it's about having that Cedrick Wilson type depth guy that can step in when injuries hit home

- And Gallup tends to be is one of those guys that tends to get hurt in some matter or another.

- I honestly did not expect a WR very early in the NFL draft, but in the same sense we drafted a cedrick wilson developmental guy in the late rounds, and considering the number of
WR prospects they did bring in per 30 visit, i did expect a late round developmental, depth guy.

- Remember WR depth issue got so bad that we had to resort looking on the streets for vet WR help .. ala Ty Hilton.

Cedric Wilson wasn't that reliable depth guy until his third year in the league. It's more likely that Tolbert or Simi will be that guy this year than some late round rookie.

Cooks fills the immediate need and assuming Gallup gets healthy the starters are locked in.

If fehoko, Tolbert, takes a step forward maybe they will be real wr's by the time cooks is a free agent.

tolbert....gallup.....my lord no wonder they made you a mod. rainbows and fairy tales all over the place
Gallup came off an injury and wasn’t the same player. But he’s a year removed and a perfect fit for what MM wants to do
Tolbert shouldn’t have been expected to be a big performer. He came from a small school had struggled learning route concepts. I’m sure they knew that and expected a huge learning curve. I’m sure they would have liked to have seen more but he’s working out with Dak so he’s putting in the work to learn and grow as a player

Injuries set Wilson back but he also had more experience in a complex offense than Tolbert did and that’s huge

The club admitted that they dropped the ball with not properly fulfilling the WR role last offseason,
preferring to rely upon scrub vet FA James Washington (who apparently they liked during his draft class time) and rookie Jalen Tolbert.
while in case awaiting Mike Gallup' ACL recovery - to which he never really return to previous form at season's end.

- WR situation so badly that it down to counting upon Noah Brown to help save us.
We were extremely lucky Cee Dee Lamb is so durable and never got hurt.

- The great turning point this offseason was the trade for speedy WR Brandon Cooks,..and apparently we brought in quite a few WR prospects to visits and
meeting at NFL combine ...but we still did not address WR until the final pick .

- Are we gonna depend upon what's left on 2022 practice quad ..and what we bring in as undrafted rookies as our 20230WR depth addresses ?
what is this continuous narrative on this board about WR Being a big need? We are absolutely solid at WR for the next two years. Yes it would be great to add a promising young kid into the mix but it would be for the future not for this year. I don’t get the constant worry about WR. We have a borderline all pro in CeeDee, a #2 who has been a #1 in Cooks and Gallup a year further from his injury who likely will be better and a solid #2 at a minimum himself. Are we really this worried about a #4 WR

note this isn’t directed at just you

Yes !
I think they felt getting cooks solved the wr problem, so that eliminated drafting one in the higher rounds.
They also feel gallup will be good to go this season, and he may be have to wait and see.

Same for rb, they got jones, so no need to draft one except like what they did.

Like others have said Lamb and Cooks is a great duo. Gallup should be healthier and closer to previous form. Tolbert and a few other young guys have a chance to take a step forward and a few of the rookies look to have some skills. Then there are always veteran WRs available should camp prove one is needed. Now isn’t the time to worry about any position. They will likely add a few more vets should it be necessary.

big performer and 2 catches for 12 yards are worlds apart

Yes, trading a fifth-round pick for Cooks was addressing the issue. We could have added another receiver, but we should expect the starters to be better than last year with Lamb and Cooks and Gallup to return to role that better suits him his second year coming off a major injury. Some argument could be made that we needed to improve our depth behind the top three, but we do have a third-rounder from last year and I'm OK with seeing how both he and UDFA Houston develop before spending high picks on the position again.

Tolbert is a second-year player coming from a smaller school.
Means nothing to me, hopefully he can play but so far he has been a bust. 30 years of watching this teab has given me ptsd

They addressed the WR position in FA. We are set at RB also. TP is good to go.

I would imagine that if JSN fell to 26 we may have suddenly made the WR the top priority lol.

With that said after the first few rounds and you get into the 3rd day they have to look and see...is there anyone left that would be a fourth or fifth WR on the team. There could be some traits guys but I doubt we would see much that would beat out the existing players.

After the first few rounds I had a personal favorite or two but I figured they would not bother with a WR at all. Frankly I am shocked they took the guy with the last pick.

There are no guarantees in life but, yes, we do have a clue what Cooks may do here. Certainly way more of a clue than any rookie we may have drafted who never played in the league before
