Players play because they can, not because they want to.

Players love themselves more than their team.

Nobody is loyal.

We can go on and on. In less than 15 years, only drones will play the game. If that's what everyone wants, more power to them.

Sure this type of day is exciting for a few, sad for a few, and good for a few. Overall though, it's very bad for the real game of football and TEAM!!!

Maybe the biggest material difference I <think> we are seeing in the effect of the NFL salary cap minimum starting to kick in.

A bunch of traditionally cheapskate companies HAVE to spend the money and ARE.

Please, the teams/front office are just as disloyal.

And I will still be watching...

I used to love college basketball. But since they made it one and done and changed all the conferences I really don't follow it. I'll fill out a bracket for the Tourney but that's about it.

Everyone thinks the NFL is immune, but I already can't stand a lot of the changes.

There is no difference between old NFL and new NFL....the billionaire owners still run the show due to the weakest Players Union in all of pro sports. DeMaurice is a great guy and great attorney but he inherited a Players Association with no teeth.

I'm old school and hated when FA and caps were put in place. I can't even imagine guys like Bob Lilly leaving to Washington or a host of other all-time greats who spent their entire time with the team and with the players who played alongside of them. Now days the guy you hated last year is the guy you are pulling for this year. But it is what it is, just glad I grew up in a different time.

Right on. I respect that.
I myself will still be watching. I will follow my Cowboys till the day I get turned to ash.

In 15 years, people will be posting messages that read exactly the same as this one.

Also: in the old days, players were "loyal" because free agency didn't exist.

Instituting pay caps @ each position and rewarding discounts towards the cap given to teams resigning homegrown talent (NBA type) could remedy some of these issues, but the NFLPA would never go for it. Most of it just comes down to players' choices and options being expanded and is not a generational thing.

Self sacrifice isn't a trait that is admired/promoted in the US (in various ways).

If I'm the only one who agrees with you, I dont' care. Just a bunch of mercenaries. NFL got what they wanted - IE Dallas not winning the SB or NFC Championship game every year.

This is for the other old-timers like me....How many times did we hear during the games in the 1975 season......(usually Pat Summerall and Tom Brookshire)

"and that's # 26 Preston Pearson. The only player on the Dallas roster that has ever played for another NFL Team"

those were the days!

Let's not go overboard with the nostalgia. The good ole' days weren't always good, and those players were only "loyal" because of the reserve clause.

Loyalty? That's funny! "Every time I say it's a game, you say it's a business. Every time I say it's a business, you say it's a game." Those old timers (Czonka, Kiick, and Warfield) traded loyalty and teammates for the WFL's money in a heartbeat.
