Diggs in danger of losing 500k for not participating in offseason program

At the time he got his contract, we all thought it was a team friendly contract. 2 serious knee injuries sure changed that.

As far as this year goes, if he starts the season on PUP he has to sit out the first 4 games. The big question is do we have starter quality players who can take his place at CB.

If I was Diggs I would not want Dallas' Rehab staff any where near the injury. Personally I think they rushed him back from the ACl and that ultimately led to contributing to the current injury. I am surprised Hooker has not been downgraded to paraplegic after the back spasm.....

My biggest reason for cutting Diggs was I don’t think he will ever be what he was signed to be when he got his big contract. Two knee surgeries in two years. I’m just saying I would rather cut my losses early than later.

Regarding Spotrac and Diggs’ contract, here is the link to his deal on Spotrac where it says, “POTENTIAL OUT: 2025, 2 YR, $33,054,000; $17,823,534 Dead Cap.” There is no “potential out” mentioned in 2026 that I see.

I appreciate your difference of opinion. I could certainly be wrong about Diggs. That’s just my opinion. The stuff about his contract - I was just quoting Spotrac. I hope you can take a look at the link. If I’m misreading it, let me know.
All of my info that I quoted comes directly from Spotrac because I find it more accurate than OTC

The "potential out" is simply something based on the original deal. The real savings would have required him being cut by the 5th league day to avoid his 2025 base salary guaranteeing but that was kind of made irrelevant because of his injury (see note pasted below). The numbers I gave are the actual numbers as of now. You don't need a predetermined "out" to cut a player. You can just cut a player (as you know). If you do, all $'s that have already been paid out and have not yet hit the cap need to hit the cap (in either the current or subsequent year depending on when he is cut) and all guaranteed $'s that have not yet been paid will need to both be paid and hit the cap. You can see these scenarios by going to Spotrac and clicking on the (cut)scissors on the right. It's basically just the amount of SB and roster bonus and restructure bonus that haven't yet hit the cap plus any guaranteed salaries still due. The former is no different if you cut or trade a player but the guaranteed salaries that have not yet been paid are saved and are passed on to the new team in a trade. So if you wanted to trade Diggs this year you would see a cap benefit of an additional $9M. If you click on the scissors you can see the exact numbers I posted above.

The simplest way to see the impact of cutting a player on Spotrac is to just look at the last column "Dead Cap". Then it's just a matter of which year it hits

  • $9M of 2025 salary fully guarantees the 5th league day of 2025 (injury guaranteed at signing)"
