Many of the players seem to "bonding" thru huge tats. A unity thing that I guess is bringing the guys in the locker room closer together. Personally I would suggest using hair cuts or something a bit more temporary and less long lasting. But I am 75 and they are in their 20's.....

Years ago a tattoo artist told me he wouldn't go past something like 8-10 hours. He said your body will eventually rebel and you'll break into a fever from the constant pain.

I have zero idea how true that my be, but we never went over 8 hours or so.

Some artists are really fast as well. He wasn't, not at all.
My second session on my Tom Landry Portrait was 9 hours. The most painful part was keeping my arm extended for that long. I mean, we took breaks, but my arm starting hurting from that, and not the actual tattoo.

I blame this need for ink craze on the great trend setter himself: Allen Iverson. He may not have been the first, but when he showed up covered in tats and wearing corn rows early in his NBA career back in the 90's it basically began a revolution among young athletes of all races, college / pro across all sports.. A.I. was a great player with a hell of a cross-over dribble, but his lasting legacy will forever be the style and swag that he brought to the game of basketball, which crossed over and transitioned into mainstream society.

I wouldn't personally destroy my flesh like that, but it takes different strokes...
I have one that’s like 50 years old
Being young and dumb can have lasting reminders lol
It’s their body so I could care less
