I've had some fun discussions about this in the past while talking football.

If you could restructure the NFL divisions, who would you want to move and why?

Would regional priority be better for fans at the expense of ending long time rivalries?

Are there particular teams that excite you as newly formed divisional opponents?

Some proposed ideas:

AFC South
Jacksonville Jags
Tennessee Titans
Houston Texans
Miami Dolphins*

AFC North
Pittsburgh Steelers
Cleveland Browns
Cincinnati Bengals
Indianapolis Colts*

AFC West
Denver Broncos
KC Chiefs
LA Chargers
Oakland (LV?) Raiders

AFC East
NE Patriots
Buffalo Bills
NY Jets
Baltimore Ravens*

********

NFC West
LA Rams
Seattle Seahawks
SF 49ers
Arizona Cardinals

NFC East
NY Giants
Philly Eagles
Washington Commanders
Carolina Panthers*

NFC North
GB Packers
Minnesota Vikings
Chicago Bears
Detroit Lions

NFC South
Atlanta Falcons
TB Bucs
NO Saints
Dallas Cowboys*

3) Water-ish Animals

This is great, but I have to ask. What makes you think a Charger is some kind of holy knight?

I Googled it. I think it's either the knight itself or the knight's horse of the Union Army during Medieval Times. At least that's what I gathered. So I guess not "holy" but maybe divine since people used to believe the kings back then were some kind of divine beings.

Yeah, horse I get. Maybe we put the Chargers in with the four legged animals, in place of Buffalo Bill, who I think only had the two. But then that puts him in the Mythical/Spiritual category, which doesn't really work, either.

Either way, good stuff.

I've never been in favor of a realignment until now. I want to get away from Wentz.

Yeah, it's always the Browns, Jets and Chargers who screw these things up.

Is it possible to be a more inert organization than the browns? Your named the Browns, but your colors are orange. Your logo is a helmet. Of all the colors to be named after, you picked probably the worst one. I get it that you were named after Paul Brown, but still. Oh, and you're from Cleveland.

They're so incredibly hapless, I actually have a soft spot for them.

It'd be interesting to change things up a little bit (or a lot).

Re-do the divisions according to geography:

Northeast:
Pats
Giants
Jets
Bills
Steelers
Eagles
Ravens
Commanders

Southeast:
Dolphins
Bucs
Jags
Falcons
Saints
Texans
Cowboys
Panthers

Central:
Browns
Titans
Colts
Lions
Bears
Chiefs
Packers
Bengals

West:
Seahawks
Raiders
Rams
49ers
Chargers
Cardinals
Broncos
Vikings

Top team in every division earns a first-round bye in the playoffs. Top 3 teams in each division make it to the playoffs. Once in the playoffs, dependent on record, teams will be seeded 1-12. Single elimination tournament until you reach a Super Bowl between the two final teams remaining.

Yeah, I can't even hate on the Browns. It's like picking on a blind kid. Have some class.

This makes a lot of sense themitcally.. I really like it.

One of the best posts I've ever seen on here.

Nailed it.

This is a cool idea. I'd love to see some of those potential matchups on a regular basis.

Only question: how would you work the scheduling?

That'd be a tough one. Probably just play divisional opponents one time per season, 4 at home, 3 on the road, and alternate each year.

And much like they do in the NFL now, designate two other divisions that you would play for that season - and determine those matchups based on the previous year's final standings.

So 7 divisional games, 9 non-divisional games against teams from two other divisions. I think it would be a cool change to the traditional placement.

That would be interesting for sure. Perhaps a 16 week season with 7 divisional games and 8 others (4 and 4 from different divisions) to make a 15 game record?
