IRVING, Texas - The Cowboys will have to wait another week to discover their Jan. 13 divisional-round opponent, but they've already learned their 10 non-division games for the 2008 season.
Besides their customary six games against NFC East foes New York Giants, Philadelphia and Washington, the Cowboys will face each team from the AFC North (Baltimore, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Pittsburgh) and NFC West (Arizona, San Francisco, Seattle, St. Louis) along with two intraconference games against division champions Tampa Bay and Green Bay.
The NFL's scheduling formula, implemented in 2002 with realignment, guarantees all teams play each other on a regular, rotating basis. In addition to playing teams within another NFC and AFC division, a first-place team like the Cowboys must play two intraconference games against two first-place teams in the same-conference divisions it isn't schedule to play that season. For the NFC East champion Cowboys, that means the NFC North champion Packers and the NFC South champion Buccaneers.
The Cowboys' 2008 opponents finished with a combined regular-season record of 107-101. The group includes six playoff teams (Pittsburgh, New York Giants, Washington, Green Bay, Tampa Bay and Seattle) and only four teams finished with losing records (Cincinnati, Baltimore, San Francisco and St. Louis).
