DMN: Babe Laufenberg: Why has Tony Romo not won a Super Bowl? Romo is not the reason

I get tired of the Tony Romo justification stories about as much as I get tired of the Cowboys need to get rid of Tony Romo stories.

Oh, and no one is saying just because a quarterback wins a Super Bowl he is better. There are other factors involved too. But when history looks back on a quarterback, unless he has the numbers, the individual awards or unless he is CLEARLY heads and shoulders above his peers, Super Bowl rings WILL be a deciding factor in who is best.

That doesn't explain why guys who also haven't won Super Bowls and whose statistics aren't even close to Romo's get ranked higher than Romo.

Tony had 2 good chances for playoff success and possible SB win.
1.2006 seattle he fumbles the snap, if he doesnt they might have gone on to SB
2.2007 13-3 team had home field adv, week off [cabo] and he didnt take it seriously enough, and lost to the giants.
had he won that game SB was very likely, and maybe they win.
3.2009 in minnesota not as much of a chance, but he played poorly as did many of his team mates, along with poor game plan.
But had tony played better they might have made it to SB.
4. 2 win or go home last games with giants and skins, I doubt they go to SB but tony did not play good in either one.

I think the only playoff game he lost and did not throw a int was the GB game last year. He played good in that, but rodgers did a little better.
I dont blame any of the losses on tony except the 2007 giant game where he was just overconfident and thought he could just show up and he would win.
They had beat the giants twice that year.
But that was a golden opportunity to go to SB and he and the team blew it.
Losing that game at home just helped give him the rep of a choker after the previous years gaff in seattle.

After that the teams were not the best , but not that bad either.

Yup completely sold him out. Trashed him. Also wrote his career off.

This from a garbage QB and blowhard.

I find mindless relies like these to be knee jerk and killing the messenger.

Babe clearly stated he worried about two back surgeries within a one year time frame. And because of this factor, and the history of back ailments for people who were comnsidered greatnes, like Aikman, Novacek, and Haley, the prognosis doesn't look good, and me MAY be starting to decline because of age and his back.

That is a far cry from the way you reported it. I heard him say it on the radio. I saw him say it on TV. He obviously has been around this game in a capacity none here have save for Dale. And even then Babe has more credibility since he also played the game.

I cannot understand why it is people get so bent about the press and try and ridicule them for stating opinions that are contrary to what the usual Romo fan thinks.

We are serious contenders once again..

I am not suggesting the Cowboys are not a serious contender. But I would like for you, or someone who holds this position to list out why they think this.

As it stands, without one game being played, nor understanding how long Hardy will be out and the results of the RoMc susp3ension or the RB situation and how it will pan out, to say emphatically this team is a SERIOUS contender is pretty sketchy and most likely an emotional comment based on last year's results.

This results don't have much to do with this coming season since so much has changed.

Like who?
And how far did they take their teams?

I will say, though, that Romo suffers from an incredible bias and is devalued by people with long nemories. I can't remember whether I heard this on a national radio sports network or my local sports station, but the announcers were debating Romo's status as a top all-time quarterback, and one announcers who wasn't buying it said, "What do you remember most about Romo?"

I don't even need to tell you the answer. :(

Babe's a better commentator then he was a quarterback, but as most of us know, that's really not saying a whole lot...

Really? Not saying a whole lot? Have you ever been in the press or done the sports for a major TV station?

If not, then can you shed some light on how you came up with the idea this isn't saying much.

This is the same argument made by so many here about sports reporters and sports journalists and sports commentators.

If you've never done the job, worked in the industry, or even apprenticed with a newspaper, serious website, or broadcast TV in the realm of sports reporting, then exactly how can you make this claim at all?

Or wait. It's your opinion. Just like Babe and most of them give when asked.

Upgrades and quality depth everywhere. Added Bonus: Romo is healthy and stronger than last season..

My opinion.

Just curious though...would you argue that he was a better qb or that he is a better commentator and it is saying alot?

Definitely a better commentator but that's not ringing praise.

I won't go into theoretical playoff runs, but that's anyone's option to do so.

I do want to correct you on a non theory thing.
Romo has 8 TDs and only 2 ints in 6 playoff games.....and one int was a end of game desperation heave, so really a pick per se.

Lots of sanctimony here and I always use my mind.

I used it to remember when Babe wrote off Romo BEFORE any back issues. Saying the usual tripe about he'll never be a winner, etc. This coming from one of the worst QBs in Cowboy history.

So use YOUR mind and don't knee jerk assume I was only talking about Romo's back because I didn't even say that.

Maybe if you get some smarts you won't go off on tangents with prefilled in ideas and comments about what "all Romo supporters" think when you reply to an individual. Or is that "two deep" for your mind??

I don't dispute that. It's the way you dismiss his current job as if fans understand.
