I thought it said that Manuel Johnson was out of shape?

Perhaps your right, I don't have all the rookies down yet.

Mickens has the worst statistical injury for a DB - meniscus. Which is why he dropped like a stone in the draft. Glad that it wasn't Mike that was hurt.

My biggest worry is that Mickens will try to come back too soon.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh... The smell of training camp reports is in the air. What a wonderful time of the year. :D

I don't know why, but that really struck me funny.

Afternoon practice observations: Mike Mickens came up limping

4:20 PM Fri, May 01, 2009 |

*Sixth-round TE John Phillips isn't a great athlete, but he has a knack for getting open. He's very precise on his cuts and is a clever route runner.

Just described Jay Novacek to a tee.

It wasn't Mickens that was limping, it ended up being Smith who rolled his ankle.

Sure. But it isn't like that meniscus is going to magically get better. Its a tough injury b/c often times once that stuff tears it won't heal. I expect the staff is going to take a long hard look at how his knee feels after him practicing on it. If he gets swelling, he's likely got some surgery in his future.

As mentioned, but still in the title ...

It was DeAngelo Smith ...

*Fifth-round S/CB DeAngelo Smith came up limping after undrafted WR Kevin Ogletree beat him on a comeback route late in practice. Smith waved off athletic trainer Jim Maurer and rejoined his teammates, but I didn't see him take another rep. (UPDATE: I originally had Mickens as the limper, but I got my ex-Cincinnati DBs confused while watching practice and listening to Jerry Jones talk. That's good news, since Mickens dropped in the draft due to concerns about his knee. Smith rolled his ankle and is expected to be OK.)

Quoted for relevance to ensure the worries over the Mickens knee subside.. :star:

Mike just needs to be smart and let that injury heal. He's too talented to just keep pushing it.

The type of injury he has doesn't really heal on its own much of the time. It was scoped so likely they took out the damaged cartilage. Either he can play on the knee as is or he needs another surgery. Rest isn't going to do much given that the injury was a while ago

My opinion would to just have whatever surgery is necessary..put him on the PUP list and slowly work him in. He could be ready to go by week 8 or so. We still have quality depth with Deangelo.

the surgery would likely put him out for the year.

Mickens did not get hurt.. Smith did.

Mickens is coming off a serious injury ... this is why he dropped so far in the draft. Lots of teams likely had him off their board.
