What? what ever you say as far as I'm concerned Spencer has not shown jack and that is not specualtion that is fact. I hope that changes but I'm not buying into Ellis held Spencer back it is up to a player to go out and earn playing time.

I'm not saying Spencer has shown anything. I'm just saying your statement was based on a false premise. Just because he didn't win the full-time starting job doesn't mean he wasn't playing better in practice. I'm not saying he did perform better. We don't know. But I can certainly claim with confidence that coaches don't always choose the player who looked better in practice to start. There are other considerations, such as experience.

You're mistaken as to the definition of "opinion" and "fact." It's a common mistake. A "fact" can be either true or false. That a fact can be false does not make it an opinion.

You mean he hasn't shown jack in terms of pass rushing or overall. Because the fact is that his injury hurt him last year. The fact is that he replaced Ellis on first and second downs when he got back from his mid season injury last year. I guess we were putting our best players on the field after all.

You said Ellis was released because of his complaing and seemed to insinuate that Spencer had nothing to do with it. Well, the fact is that Ellis had been told way before mini camps that Spencer was the starter. What you don't see is that, Spencer has been every bit the player in run and pass D. He still has to improve in his pass rush but the rest are facts. You should take a lot at his tackle numbers after he returned from his injury if you're so into data facts.

As do I. I would much rather sing the praises of Spencer than to knock him but I just have not been overly impressed with his play thus far maybe because I do expect more out of him than what I have seen.

I think many of us were expecting him force the coaches to put him on the field, but he didn't do enough to warrant it. No more excuses this year.

Fact is Spencer is an OLB with 4.5 sack no matter how you spin that it sucks and Had Ellis put up those number anyone with an ounce of sense would say it as well. Spencer to this point has shown little he is a 1st rd pick I kind of expect him to play like one and thus far he has not. His run stopping please the Raven ran back to back plays on him and he was knocked out of the play both times but everyone want to lay it on Hamlin who yes derserves to get called out as does Spencer. I'm saying in a pass happy league an OLB in the 3-4 defense he should produce more than that. I don't know what part you don't understand.

Spencer could have been outplaying Ellis in practice and they still would have went with Ellis.

In a very literal sense you couldn't substantiate it. But it should be read as "... and they likely still would ...". Given that slight modification it could certainly be verified. I'm guilty of doing what most people do when speaking quickly and without putting much thought into every word. When people say "X is certainly going to happen" what they most often mean is "X is most likely going to happen."
