Video Breakdowns:
Let's look at 5 plays from the heartbreaker in Arizona. 2 runs and 3 passes from Stephen McGee. McGee is obviously a player of intrigue here as a relatively high pick in the 2009 Draft, and now there is some question of whether he projects to an eventual starter in this league. Saturday was our first look at him with live fire, and the results were quite impressive.

What Happened: The first thing I want to see from a new QB is his willingness to take a hit to make a play. McGee has never had to answer questions about toughness, but you do think that at the NFL level, the players hit harder and at some point he will have to show he is willing again to take a beating in the name of finding a man down the field. The blitz that teams are using more and more against the Cowboys continues to be the zone blitz. Drop a few guys who look like rushers, rush a few guys who look like cover men, and try to confuse the OL. This works again as the Cardinals rush 5 and the first wave goes wide leaving the middle wide open for the safety who rushes right down main street and hits McGee in the chin as he releases a strike right to his hot route with Miles Austin. A very impressive first salvo from McGee.

Love these video breakdowns and having a chance to see/rewind everything in a play to see what worked and didn't.

I also absolutely love the potential of this offense. Upgrade this O-line, heal Romo & Dez, and lets get busy once again. I cannot wait.

I don't think there is any question that he feels that way. Now what opportunities there are to do it remain to be seen. There is now way that I believe our starting line in 2011 is Free - Kosier - Gurode - Davis - Columbo. I would bet money that at least 1 and probably 2 will be different next year.

I thought he looked ok. You could tell as the game went on he was getting more comfortable. Credit Garrett with some decent play calling with this young kid.

Can't wait to see how he plays sunday. Maybe well enough to maybe compete for the backup role next year.

Do you really think McGee can beat Kitna out. McGee bought himself at least another year likely more. But he's not moving up the ladder yet.

Remains to be seen. Will Kitna even return as the backup? He might go somewhere else and play. Who knows.

It's hard to be certain what the intentions are here. If McGee plays really well on Sunday then you could argue he is ready to be the backup and we need to bring in a 3rd QB as a developmental project. This is how the QB carousel is supposed to work.

Then in a couple of years (with Romo still going strong), maybe we can trade McGee for a 2nd rounder, promote the 3rd stringer to backup and bring in another developmental project. Eventually we find a guy to be Romo's replacement and he goes from backup to starter.

Remains to be seen. Will Kitna even return as the backup? He might go somewhere else and play. Who knows.

Another year left on Kitna's contract I believe.

I think next years QB depth chart being Romo-Kitna-McGee looks like a pretty solid bet at this point. No reason to prematurely jettison Kitna. More development and more evaluation of McGee is in order. We have time.

We have too many other roster priorities to invest in another QB option at this point that could threaten the current pecking order.
