Beat writers note: You should have gotten this earlier in the day but I was at an Advance Sports Retreat, led by Cowboys defensive coordinator Brian Stewart. I'll tell you more about it later on.

Now, back to the offseason series.

There are so many good cornerbacks in this league. The Cowboys have the best trio of corners around in Pacman, Newman and Henry. Yes, we know Pacman wants to be called Adam and we'll do that. But when he plays at a high level on the field, we have to call him Pacman. Don't we? Denver and San Diego have the best corners in the game, though Champ Bailey didn't look as good last season. We might have ranked the Eagles a little high, but that's only due to Asante Samuel joining the group.

Here's the rankings:

1. San Diego. The Chargers have the best 1-2 punch in the game with Antonio Cromartie and Quentin Jammer. Cromartie led the NFL with 10 picks last season and Jammer is solid. Rookie Antoine Cason will see plenty of action in pass situation.

2 .Denver. Terence Newman said Champ Bailey sets the standard for corners. Bailey had an off year last year with only three picks, but we expect a better season from him. Dre' Bly is an excellent corner on the other side and in case of injury Domonique Foxworth can start.

3. Philadelphia. The Eagles improved their team by getting Asante Samuel (16 INTs last two seasons). Samuel will be a force in division games this season, especially against the Cowboys. Sheldon Brown has always been solid. But losing Lito Sheppard will hurt somewhere down the line.

4. Dallas. The Cowboys should be higher, but we can't until Adam Jones gets full reinstatement. Anthony Henry and Terence Newman are underrated for their skill level. Rookie Mike Jenkins adds speed to the cornerback position.

5. Green Bay. Al Harris and Charles Woodson are some man-to-man playing fools. Each is in their 30s and that might slow them down. Second-year man Will Blackmon from Boston College and Jarrett Bush from Utah State provide good depth.

Also receiving votes: Ravens, Colts, Raiders, Seahawks, Bucs, Bears.
Surprises. Bills and the Saints.

They stole him. I am cool with Jenkins. Just want to make that clear.

Newman isn't a Bronco.

I like Samuel, but I think he's over rated a bit.

By year's end this will be 1 or 2 on this list.

5 and fading fast due to age IMO.

These rankings are idiotic. Jammer is barely solid. Even with Cromartie, the Chargers have no business at the top spot. I would rank Green Bay or Dallas as the best at this point.

SD belongs at #1. Their secondary the second half of the season was vicious. The way they handled the two best QBs in the league in the playoffs was "uber cool". Until we see Pacman allowed to be on the field and perform at a high level, we have no business ranking our secondary higher than the one that was constantly getting p3wned on 3rd and longs last year. GB probably belongs at 2nd, but Al Harris is severly overrated. Plaxico might not even be a top 10 receiver and he molested him in the NFC championship game last year.

You may have misread it. it states "Terence Newman said Champ Bailey sets the standard for corners."

The Chargers ate up quarterbacks because of their pass rush. Their corners are not even close to being the best in the league.

That may be true, but they have the best depth at corner.

Their depth isn't any better than ours.

Regardless of anyones rankings or anything our secondary will be one of the best if not the best unit.

With those guys skill level and our pass rush its just a recipe for another teams offense to have a complete disaster against us.

Plus most of these guys around the league really dont understand how dominant T-New is.

We never have to worry about another teams #1 receiver as long as Newman is lined up across from them. Its one of the more automatic things in all of professional sports.

Add in Pacrat, Henry, and Jenkins and its just truly to much.

Thats not even counting guys like Allen Ball and Orlando Scandrick who have pretty high ceilings talent wise.

I'll take our secondary over anyones.

Like I already said, im not including Pacman yet cause he hasnt been cleared to play or even performed at a high level as a Cowboy nor am I counting Jenkins who hasnt even played a down on the NFL field.

No way is Denver #2.

This is the same talk from last year, and it was wrong then too.

Dre Bly has been lousy for the past two years.

And Champ Bailey had a down year and needs a comeback season to reclaim his #1 spot.

So your impressed with SD's depth of Paul Oliver, Cletis Gordon, and Steve Gregory? Because if you can't count our rookies then don't count theirs.

I think you're right. I hope. On paper we are killas. Now they just need to do it. And get Adam Jones on the field for that prophecy to be bullit proof and not a paper dragon. Henry is a favorite of mine but he can't seem to stay healthy enough to do it. I'm hoping he can stay healthy this year. Is so then watch out.

The main thing is this, if you discount our rookies and pacman then we have the shallowest secondary in the NFL. I mean we have what 3 safties and 2 CBs, or maybe 3 CBs?
