That's what I'm thinking... He'll be a special teamer *if* he even makes the team.

But mainly, this is a nothing move. How can anyone complain about a move like this?
Does one need a reason to complain?

I kind of thought he would have been here a year ago, but I'm betting that injuries held him back.

Again, he's a role player. But there's nothing wrong with bringing in smart guys who know their roles and will do their jobs. If Stewart does his job better than someone else does theirs, keep him around. No harm here.

Actually, I like that Wade is bringing in some of his guys. I think that could bode well for the team.

WE will draft 3 LB's, sign 2 rookie FA LB's, or the opposite. Take a chance and see if they can be better than these signing or the LB's we had from last year's roster. Excluding the obvious starters and now Brooking.

I really don't understand what Jerry Jones is doing. This guy was cut, and has injury problems. Maybe Jerry sees something that us the fans don't see. I really hope that this was a good choice. Only time will tell.

If Dallas is taking chances on guys who have been out of the League for a year, or three, then why not take a chance on Dan Morgan?

Sign him to a min vet one year contract. Morgan still had his speed when he retired in 2008, he just could not get on the field due to an Achilles injury (not concussions as many believe).

The guy is fiery, fast and can lay a lick like very few at his position. Take chances on guys like that.

Why are some of you acting like this signing is supposed to be a big deal? Anyone with common sense should realize he was brought in for depth & S/T purposes, not to be an "impact" player! You guys act like he's being plugged into the starting lineup or something! If you all wiped the tears from your eyes due to all the crying & whining you'd realize this...

Cowboys add a linebacker

With Kevin Burnett taking visits to Oakland and San Diego, the Cowboys have added another linebacker to the fold with Wade Phillips' ties, agreeing on a one-year contract with Matt Stewart.

Like Keith Brooking, Stewart played for Phillips in Atlanta in 2002-03 and started 29 games. In 2003 he had his best season with 108 tackles. He has not played since 2006 after a shoulder injury cost him the '07 season with Cleveland and he was cut by Arizona last year.

Stewart, 29, has experience at inside and outside linebacker in the 3-4 and 4-3 schemes. He also played for special teams coach Joe DeCamillis in Atlanta.

Take that NY and Wash. :laugh2:

A Wade guy.
hasn't played since 2006.
Cut by Arizona last year.
Well, WE MUST HAVE HIM!!!!!

Well, at least he's not over 30.

No, but he's had two rather severe knee and shoulder injuries.

Classic Jerra/Wade.

Almost makes me pine for Landry/Brandt of 1987. Almost.

Dallas still needs a coverage LB. Do you see any on the roster? Every LB signing is important, due to the lack of depth.

Because we can.

Why does it seem that you take every negative point or idea so personnally.
I am beginning to think you are Wade's illegitimate son. Or jerra's son he hides in the basement.

This latest move just seems like a trash move to keep fans' interest while jerra does nothing in FA.
And if FA does not hold much, then it's OK.
I like building by the draft, not with these broken down players who are mostly in their 30s. (Yes, I know, Stewart is not over 30, but he's broken down.)

if you don't like discussion about players jerra brings in, just ignore it. Or don't but don't come in whining that others are whining.

I really don't think Wade and JJ are bringing in players to simply keep the fans' interest in FA!

why is everyone overreacting to these signings???

we got kitna to backup romo good upgrade from last year. most of you were calling for bollinger last year remember??

and we sign keith brooking a still solid veteran that can still get the job done inside not some small pushover like zach thomas.

and not to mention his contract is the least of our worries. i think with his skill level still being pretty good and his leadership he's definately gonna out perform his pretty cheap contract.

and now this guy they give him a low risk 1 year deal where they probably cut him anytime with no major damage and you guys cry like they chose him over ray lewis or something!!

relax and at the worst we can just cut the guy and at the best he could prove to be another columbo for us.

another guy who had not played in a few years and suffered injuries but took advantage of his oppourtunities.

how many of you folks here thought columbo would turn into what he is today??? ( IMO the most consistent o-lineman on our team)

relax people please!!! at least wait to bash jerry after the draft and its only been a week into free agency.

lets wait to see if jerry addresses our safety spot and then lets bash him.

other than safety and o-line depth and now a d-lineman now canty is gone we dont have to really make those big splashes that these other teams are making.

they're trying to catch up. remember we are the same team that people said was the most talented team in football and our problems wasn't the talent it was leadership, chemistry, coaching, and injuries.

i think jerry is being smart by not throwing money out there in what in my opinion is a watered down free agency year.

there are alot of solid options out there still left and jerry is smart because the longer those guys sit the lower the price is for those players.

especially the closer it come to the day of the draft when teams have their minds set on the prospects.

i think its a few safety free agents that would be good here and in the draft as well as o-lineman.

i dont think its no good d-lineman left though thats starting quality. maybe olshansky but at how much???

The Cowboys announced the signing of linebacker Matt Stewart today. He worked out for the team on Monday and quickly agreed to terms, reuniting with coach Wade Phillips, who was his defensive coordinator for two years in Atlanta.

Stewart's agent, Brian Parker, said Stewart's shoulder injury, which cost him the 2007 season in Cleveland, is 100 percent. He said Stewart had a few workouts last season following his release from Arizona, but the Cowboys were among the first to contact him last month.

One of Stewart's first calls went to Keith Brooking, his teammate in Atlanta and now with the Cowboys.

"Matt and Keith certainly have some great memories together, being part of the team which gave the Packers their first-ever playoff defeat in Lambeau and a good run in '04 to the NFC championship game," Parker said. "Matt's looking forward to playing alongside Keith again ... He's well-rested, fresh and rejuvenated. He's looking forward to getting going."
