Former Dallas Cowboys linebacker Eugene Lockhart was arrested by FBI agents at his Carrollton home Thursday morning after being indicted on mortgage fraud charges, nbcdfw.com has reported.

According to nbcdfw.com:
Eight others were also indicted in the alleged scheme involving "straw purchasers" and "straw buyers" of houses, said FBI spokesman Mark White. An alleged co-conspirator, Lendell Beacham, of Desoto, was also arrested. "It's been a long-term investigation," White said. He described the amount of fraud as "pretty substantial." Lockhart and Beacham were scheduled to appear before a federal magistrate at 1 p.m. If convicted, they could face up to 30 years in prison and a $1 million fine.

Lockhart joined the Cowboys in 1984 and played for seven seasons before he was traded to the New England Patriots in 1991, where he played his final two years of professional football.

I think if you ask most people where did Lockhart play they would say Dallas. He spent 7 year in big D and 2 in NE. However this has nothing to do with the Cowboys

Is it that hard to make an honest living after being paid big bucks in the NFL? I know Lockhart is innocent until proven guilty, but I just get sick of hearing about ex-jocks involved in corrupt activities. Sometimes I wish they would do more stories about successful, honest-living ex-players to balance these police blotter stories.

I just can't figure out why people risk so much for excess money.

Sure, money is good to have, but is it really worth spending your life in prison? :bang2:

Greedy people suck.

Wow.

Here in Hattiesburg, we had a group of people in the mortgage industry get in trouble for the same exact thing. Loan Officers, Wholesale Account Executives, Appraisers, and Lawyers all went to jail. That was the industry I was working in as an Account Executive and I knew a lot of the people who got arrested.

It is amazing that they even thought they could get away with it.

Sad for Lockhart.

Yeah, like, for example, Tony Romo pulling over the side of a highway to help a stranded old couple who had a flat. But you never hear about those

How 'bout this: Sometimes I wish these successful current and ex-players would just live an honest-living to stay out of the tabloid news-sphere.

I said I wish they would do MORE stories about successful, honest-living EX-players, so I don't know how Romo got into the discussion. So like many around here say: Learn to read.:p:
