The NFL just announced the compensatory picks and the Cowboys have been awarded fifth and sixth round selections in next month's draft.

The Cowboys were given the picks for losing running back Julius Jones to Seattle and cornerback Jacques Reeves to Houston last year in free agency.

The Cowboys now have 11 picks in the draft with one pick in the second round, two in the third, two in the fourth, three in the fifth, two in the sixth and two in the seventh round.

Compensatory picks cannot be traded.

Does anyone think we could maybe package some picks (since we have 11) and go get a first or an early second round pick?

Adam nails it yet again.

Was there any doubt? The guy is amazing. He really does his research and has a keen mind for this stuff.

Short answer: yes

...at least concerning an early second....but I'd guess we'd lose the quite a bit in doing so.

IMO, it's only worth it if someone of incredible value drops WAAAAYYY down. If not, I'd only be interested in moving up a few spots to pick someone we were targeting. But that's just me. :)

how in the heck did the Giants get a 3rd round pick for Gibril Wilson? He sucked for oakland last year, I would say Reeves played better than he did.

The Giants got a third? What the hell, I wish we could have found a way to get something for Roy.

It's not based on talent or even performance, per se, but on salary and playing time. It does take into account if the guy made the Pro-Bowl or All-Pro though.

Wasn't that with Cleveland in a draft day trade?

We only have one third round choice and that's Cleveland's.

The other went for Roy Williams. Archer should be embarassed he got this wrong.

We have only one third round choice that's right. But then again we had 9 picks before we got those 2 for compensation - i am pretty sure about that.

So what pick is he missing then ? I think we have 3 sixth round picks not 2 but i'm not sure.

1- 3rd
2-4s
2-5s
2-6s
3-7s
but he is saying another 5th, so it may be one less 7 and one more 5
