The Cowboys lead the league in rushing. They're averaging 6.8 yards a carry.
But the idea that the Cowboys are running more than they did last season is wrong.

They're running better. But through three games, the Cowboys have run the ball 48 percent of the time, which is what they did through the first three games of 2008. They actually have five fewer carries as a team than they did heading into Week Four of last season.

Another gauge is explosive runs. Any run of 12 or more yards falls into this category for the Cowboys.

There have been 13 explosive runs so far this season. That's one more than the team had at this stage last season.

the offensive coordinator still has no clue what kind of team this is.

Pretty sure at the moment he has a near perfect handle on what kind of team this is. Other than a couple snafus, Garretts been rather impressive this year.

Agree - really the only two snafus have been the abandonment of the run against the Giants in Week 2, and the back-to-back fade calls last week. Other than that, it looks like the run-blocking schemes are a whole lot better than both of the last two seasons...

I've said it in many posts before...Leonard Davis pulling around to the left behind Flozell and Kosier in space is devastating...especially with a runner like Barber who is patient behind his blockers and then punishes the tackler at the point of attack.

real impressed with the back to back fade passes.

this should be a power running team with our oline and the backs we have, its mind blowing that he is still calling more passing plays.

Shouldn't be so myopic about this.

I didn't like the back to back fade passes either, but looking at the entirety of the first three games and averaging 400+ yards per game, it's hard to be too mad at Garrett.

how much of this is down to hudson houck? ginger isnt doing anything different than last season, he abandoned the run in a big game and is still way to infatuated with the passing game.

It's a combination of having a healthy complete O-line with continuity and teams expecting us to pass.

small sample size.

we rolled up the bucs and the panthers. the winless bucs and panthers. the giants game might have been impressive if we haddnt completely abandoned the run and unnecessarily put the game in romos hands.

Cool, so you weren't able to watch the Giants game or look at the stats either. I see the confusion now.

I'll anoint Garrett HC worthy when we win big games, limit turn overs on offense by passing less, sustain drives against better teams, and not leave our defense with poor field position.

I'll also take my own winery on the Pacific coast...:D

Pretty sure we ran more than we passed in the second half though I could be remembering incorrectly. That's not abandoning the run.

As for the long bomb, it's pretty dumb to base your entire opinion on a few plays then cry small sample size when someone shows you how well the offense is performing as a whole.

But it's whatever. People are entitled to their own stupi...errrrr....opinions.

The topic wasn't whether we lost, but whether we abandoned the run.

But the entire premise is about winning and losing, and how we achieve or fail.

No the premise of the thread is the effectiveness of the run. Considering their NFL ranking.

You mean you base that observation on whether the 'boys win or lose?
