Do you keep Tank Johnson?

I asked Mr. Johnson today if he wants to come back for the 2009 season. Johnson is in the last year of a two-year deal he signed last year when the club grabbed him off the waiver wire.
Johnson said he's not looking too far ahead but there is concern about bringing him back.
Johnson has 45 tackles this season, 11th on the team and has three tackles for loss, tied for fifth on the team.
Is that good enough to bring back for another season?
I doubt Johnson wants to return here and I doubt the Cowboys want him back.

I don't think he is a good fit for this defense at nt. However, if he isn't coming back we do need to find someone else to take some snaps there.

Don't have anything against the guy, but I'd just as soon bring in a true NT to backup for a season.

Depends on who is available.

I doubt we'd be able to upgrade but if we can im all for it.

I don't think you can find a better backup in this league. That's what he is on this team. A backup. If he wants to go to a team where he can get a chance to start by all means he should do that but i'd bring him back. He's not a liability. He's solid.

A lot of that has to do with not being able to get on the field.

Even when he has been on the field he has been blown off the ball, I always see 95 with his back facing towards the play. I can count on one hand the plays hes made since we signed him.

He's a 4-3 DT ... he's not a NT in the 3-4. He'll do well somewhere else, but unless he's willing to sign a cheap contract, I'm not in a hurry to bring him back.

No. I thought he could be what Ratliff is right now. Maybe another year would help, but he'll make plenty of money elsewhere.

I think he is what he is, There is no point in giving him any money.

We have an abundance of draft picks and marcus spears can slide inside if need be.

Throw in the fact that stephen bowen is getting more and more time in regular packages at end and tank really is not useful.

He's still a risk though.

If I were him i'd sign another 1 year deal in Dallas and stay clean from trouble unless some team is desperate to pay the big bucks (which I doubt happens)

I see too much of Tank on roller skates to justify keeping him. He is average at best againstn the run and he doesnt rush the passer, so why would we keep him?

It's interesting that Chris Canty hasn't been re-signed. I wonder what's going on there.

I don't think he's any risk at all, in terms of getting in trouble with the NFL or the law.

I will say this -- with this coaching staff, just because a player isn't getting on the field doesn't mean he couldn't produce if he were on the field on a consistent basis. That's been shown numerous times this season, mostly on the offensive side of the ball, though.

100% agree with that.

Tank was also a very good player for Chicago and here in Dallas he got in the best shape of his life.

He's been so ordinary and will get paid so little, it probably doesn't matter.

I'd probably rather let him go and replace him in the draft, but if we keep him for a small deal, that's okay, too.
