I think Carpenter will be fine for the role we are going to use him for, which is a nickel LB. He blitzes well enough and has pass coverage skills. His weakness against the run isnt going to be much of an issue when he's playing almost exclusively on passing downs.

Exactly, and he would also probably fill in decently in needed for Bradie James or Keith Brooking. No Carpenter will never be near as physical of a player as James is or even as physical as Brooking. But if you put him in surrounded by starters, and not backups who are playing poorly, his play would look better to the fan.

If Anderson was cut for performance than Courtney Brown should have been left in Oakland, because he was the worst player on the field. I think the Cowboys didn't want to mess around with Anderson because he is hurt.

he is a safety playing CB, BUT he stunk 4 sure at CB

This is encouraging news. Our little Barbie might be turning into Ken, lol.
Y'know, the only difference between Ken and Barbie is the length of their hair... :p

In the nickel spot, where Bobby will play, I think he'll be just fine. He can put a little pressure on the QB and covers pretty good. I think he'll do fine in that role.

Was Carpenter really not awful?

I thought he played ok, for a safety. He was "around the ball". Meaning that he was standing next to the pile almost every time. Other than that I just thought he danced around blockers all night and narrowly missed sacks.

One effort on a toss right, I think it was, was particularly gross. Instead of playing downhill and attacking the ball, he danced around blockers to the sideline and ended up about 8 yards downfield before he got near the pile, where the tackle had been made.

Meh. Maybe he can be an effective nickel LB.

I agree I think in nickel playing alongside the starting defense he can make an impact.

Agreed. It just amazes me how much Wade is criticized but hardly ever praised for his ability to find roles on his defense for his players. He was been doing this long before Belicheat was doing this but Belicheat gets praised as a genius when he does it.

Some fans are so busy campaigning against Wade and they are missing a true defensive genius at work.

When you win in the playoffs, as well as multiple SB's both as a coordinator and a HC, you've earned that label. When your teams get worse as you stay on as HC and can't win the big game(s), you'll earn little praise. It's a show me business.

The Raiders stat crew was in preseason form. They credited undrafted offensive guard Greg Isdaner with Keith Brooking's sack.

What? that wasn't Isdaner #51..........lol

Bobby has good coverage in flat.

I have mixed feelings about Bobby's game. He was really good in coverage but not so good against the run. He made some good plays against the run but as the play by play above showed he was driven often out of the play. He showed an ability to blitz too. For a linebacker he is fast and the coaches have to like that but he is less physical than what I like.

One thing I want to point to out is that on most of the run plays here Carp was not 'physical' enough was because he had a guard weighing 50+ more pounds than him on him. The defensive line was not doing diddly to keep the interior oline from getting to the second level. Time after time you see guard in these listings.
