Felix Jones and injuries

A toe injury left the Cowboys and their fans wanting to see more from Felix Jones last season.

A thigh bruise limited how much the team and their fans saw of Jones in the season opener.

The Cowboys obviously didn't need much from Jones to beat Tampa Bay. And let me make this clear. It's premature to say Jones is injury-prone.

But if this continues, it won't take long for Jones to go from being viewed as one of the team's most exciting players to one of its most frustrating.

They said he hurt it on the 1st play and he did have that nice run for about 15 yards up the left side and he almost broke that TD to the left side as well.

He got hit so hard in the thigh that im not surprised he got a stinger.

Do we have any updates on how he's feeling now? Hopfully it was something he just needed a few days to recover from.

They amputated the injured leg, so he's just probable for the Giants...

I've been a Cowboy fan for 32 years and I know we now live in the digital age where everything is on the internet, but I've always wondered over the last decade if.......

Athletes have gotten softer than in years past or does the media just go over board on every little bit of news.

I'm sure in the 70's and 80's Tony Dorsett had a thigh bruise but you didn't hear about it.

You did not have all the news outlets. Now days you have a 24 hour news cycle taking place some dedicated to nothing except sports so you are going to get a lot more info than what was reported prior to the emergence of ESPN and now NFL Network.

ESPN has been around since 1979.

Yes they have but not as many people had cable TV in 79. ESPN did not start off with as many TV viewer in 79 than they would see later on.

Yes they do.

It's not just sports, it's daily news also.

With no SERIOUS injuries you can't be too concerned. After I saw Cadillac Williams on the other side of our team running the rock so well after THREE ACL surgeries, tearing it in BOTH knees the term injury prone lost some meaning.

I'd hate to see him end up like an expensive Ferrari that's always in the shop.

I'm sure in the 70's and 80's Tony Dorsett had a thigh bruise but you didn't hear about it.

In years past, when we the fans did not hear about Cowboy players' injuries, the opponent-team coming up that week did not hear about them either; so injuries could be easily hidden.

Back them rules were also more liberal about teams needing to disclose injuries. Now-a-days, teams have to disclose every nick and bruise and accurately list injured players as probable, questionable or out, with very strict penalties if they lie or do not disclose properly.

And today, the media also highlights every injury, so if an injured player plays, then the opposing team knows which part of the injured player's body to target when tackling him; every team actually game plans that.

That's why injuries are a much bigger factor in today's game versus years past.
