Fine debut for Felix Jones

Tim MacMahon

First-round RB Felix Jones didn't get a carry until Marion Barber bruised his ribs, but the rookie certainly didn't disappoint when he got his chance.

You want instant impact? Doesn't get much better than scoring on your first carry. The most impressive part of Jones' 11-yard TD run wasn't his burst through the hole, which everybody knew he could do. It was the way he put his head down and dragged safety Sean Jones into the end zone.

"The thing about Felix is he's not a scatback," Jerry Jones said. "He's a back of his own, as you saw on some of those inside runs."

But it's Jones' big-play potential that folks are really fired up about. Three of his nine carries went for double-digit yardage, including an 18-yarder that was an ankle tackle away from being a 67-yard TD. Oh, and he had another big run negated by a holding penalty.

"Everybody saw what Felix Jones can do once he gets that ball and has a crease," T.O. said.

In somewhat related news, Steelers rookie RB Rashard Mendenhall had 10 carries for 28 yards today.

Mendenhall has the potential to be a very good back for Pittsburgh. [strike]I just wish some folks could see the same potential in Felix Jones.[/strike]

Oops. I should... take care... of that last... part. There. All better. There's no way Pittsburgh and Dallas could both land two good backs out of the last draft. I'm so ashamed. :)

[strike]Then again, Dallas drafted Jones AND Choice, so technically the Cowboys landed TWO very good backs last April and the Steelers landed only one.[/strike] Wait. That's probably... gonna be read... sooooo. There. All better. :)

Said since the minute the pick was in back in April- we absolutely made the right pick. He is definitely going to be an impact player. And just think, he was never really utilized at all today in the passing game, which is a big part of what he adds to the offense.

:hammer:

When you look at the kind of damage Felix Jones could do in this offense, it's so downright scary, it's profound. Just my two cents.

my favorite part was on one of his longer runs, he was protecting that ball with two hands and dragging the defensive backs with him.

I've gotta admit to being totally wrong on Jones.....so far.

I hope he continues to make me look stupid.

There seem to be a number of quality young backs in this draft. I have to admit I appear to have been wrong on Chris Johnson.

It's nice to know that Felix, so far, is right there in that mix of being a nice young back. Certainly didn't a great job today.

my only complaint is that his TD was a run instead of a catch. but that is me being selfish cause Romo is my fantasy QB.....

I am going to enjoy watching Felix and Choice all season long.

BTW, it took me a while to get used to Choice, I got used to him being 29.......and now he is 23.

I think Jones will turn out to be everything Reggie Bush was supposed to be.

I can see him being a 1,300 yard rusher and a 400-500 yard receiver.

Yeah, this could be the best 1, 2 punch we've been searching for, hoping it would happen last year with JJ, but JJ didn't do his part.

Man, it was SOOO heartbreaking to see him miss homerun shots b/c he was tripped up just enough to stop him. But it's in him, it's there! I think we will see Felix Jones break off 50+yd TD runs this season.

Felix was not my first choice at running back, but I'm liking the extra dimension he's bringing to the offense... I just want to see the Boys get him involved in the passing game, I think about him one on one with a DB on a swing pass, and I just drool...
