Five teams have already expressed an interest in former Cowboys safety Roy Williams, his agent Jordan Woy said. Williams plans on lining up some trips and possibly moving forward next week.
In the meantime, Williams himself is probably still soaking it all in. When reached Friday afternoon, Williams said he didn't want to discuss the situation and referred all questions about his future to Woy.
There's no question Williams anticipated this day would come. In late February, word broke that the team was shopping the five-time Pro Bowler for a possible trade. At that time, Woy said he hoped something would get done quickly.
Earlier this week, it was reported that Woy recently demanded the Cowboys trade or release Williams. You can't blame Williams' representative for forcing the Cowboys to hurry up and make up their minds. The fact that the team released Williams the same day as Terrell Owens was an interesting P.R. move, as if the team was worried about some sort of backlash from who knows where.
Someone out there must want a veteran safety who is eager to prove he's still got it. Move Williams close to the line of scrimmage, and maybe he can still knock people out. I'm ready to make a strong bet that Williams' NFL days are not over.
