I read in one of the GB fan blogs (I don't know how accurate it is) that he was asking for $5M.

then Dallas would have to be prepared to offer 6, maybe 7 mil

Sounds reasonable to me.

A lot more reasonable for Olshansky at 5 years $25 million than 6 years $42 million that Canty got.

And we know Jones has no problem dishing out a big signing bonus to sweeten the deal.

I wouldn't give Igor big money. Jason Hatcher was drafted to play the 5 technique. Play him. Spears can play it. Ratliff can play 5 and 3.

Don't waste money on a one dimensional player. Canty wasn't worth big money, and Igor isn't, either, imo.

Draft another Jay Ratliff or 3 technique player.

Ricky Jean-Francois
Alex Magee
Cory Irvin

These three players can play smash mouth, and they are excellent 3 technique players. Get one of these guys in the rotation. They are one gap penetrators and built for Wade Phililps' defense. They can hold the point of attack and slash. Also, they can probably play all three Dline positions.

Get the next Jay Ratliff in the draft or go for that type of player. You can better believe San Diego will be looking to find a Jay Ratliff. They have seen his progression under Wade Phillips.

Okay, thanks.

I would just pay that and be done with it. Depending on the signing bonus, of course.

Because who's to say we won't be in this same boat next year with Spears?

If Igor signs anywhere for less than Canty signed for, then he's either not very good or the world is really messed up.

Personally, I won't be at all surprised if Bowen is the starting DE. From what I've seen, he's ready to break out and may be the very reason we didn't actually try to negotiate much with Canty.

Canty did almost nothing last season...very unproductive, but he sure had his celebrations well-rehearsed for his occasional tackle...I even saw him do it a couple of times after someone else's tackle...ridiculous.

I'd like Igor like the rest of you, I just don't understand how Canty got $42 mil and we can think that it would be possible for Olshansky to be had for less than 30. As much as I'd like to bring him in, I just don't see it happening.

I would love Igor as well but Jerry is going to sit on his thumb, watch his stadium get built and give brain dead interviews to the media and that's how the off season will be.

a media guy brought up the 5 for 25 which got us all excited but yea that may be about 10 mil off and if it is... bleh.

and if you wanted to go 7 then Canty wouldn't have been gone.

I just listened to today's Talking Cowboys while I was working out, and Mickey said he thought we had drawn the line at 36 for 6 years on Canty. If that's the case, I would just give that to Igor and be done with it.

Unless Wade just really believes Hatcher can do it, and maybe he likes the DE available to draft. Or, maybe he sees a NT he likes in the draft and wants Rat to go to end.

Moala would be a pretty good candidate for 3-4 DE, noone should expect much production out of him on the stat-sheet, but he is tall, strong, and does a good job of holding his ground, he would make a good starter, to be replaced by a Hatcher on passing downs, whose struggles against the run (Hatcher) have prevented him from turning into a starter, in addition to the injury(s)
I'd love for them to get Moala, especially if it's after the 2nd round.

Hatcher looked flabby and out of shape last season. I don't have much confidence he can replace Canty.
