Garrett probably didn't mean it that way

"I'm awfully excited to be sitting in this chair," Jason Garrett said early in his press conference.

Which chair was he sitting in? The same one Wade Phillips does during his daily chats with the Valley Ranch media horde.

I'm sure Garrett didn't mean to imply that he wanted to sit in that chair on a regular basis, but that's the first thing that popped into my sensationalizing mind. Oh, the symbolism.

Garrett went out of his way to praise Wade Phillips this afternoon. And Phillips lavished praise on Garrett, calling him a "special coach" who is "vital to what we do."

However, there sure will be an interesting dynamic between the Cowboys' head coach and the highest-paid assistant in the league. Garrett said he wasn't promised that he'd be the Cowboys' next head coach, but it doesn't take a whole lot of imagination to envision Jerry giving him a wink-wink deal.

The only question is when Garrett will get that chair on a permanent basis.

I really don't see a problem for either Phillips or Garrett. Both are very professional coaches who lack the ego so many other coaches have. They will work well together, just like they did in 07, because that's there nature but also because it is in both of their best interests and in the Cowboys both interest.

Media types like Mosley just want to stir up trouble cause they need something to write about. In the first years it was all about Jerry and Parcells won't get along well together and relationship couldn't last -- yet it did. Then JJ brings in TO and their relationship still survived even though the media continues to imply that TO or Romo's dropped snap was the reason Parcells retired. Then the media focused on the hiring of Garrett first before Phillips saying that couldn't work. So now hear we are again, another rehash of the Phillips and Garrett won't be able to get along. Does anybody really think Garrett will tank his offense to ensure Cowboys don't win -- I bet that would get him a lot of job offers and Jerry sure wouldn't be happy if our offense didn't score lots of points. And certainly Phillips won't tank his defense cause that not in his best interests. Geez, what do these guys drink/smoke?

BTW: I took Garrett's comment to mean he was glad to be sitting in a chair here at VR discussing his remaining with the Cowboys.

I'm pretty sure he immediately followed that comment up with "as offensive coordinator of the Cowboys."

So now we have two head coaches - why not just can Wade and spare him the humiliation when we go 7-9 next season .

This issue is exactly what was discussed this time last year and it was a complete non-issue this past season.

As for next year, only time will tell, but it's not going to turn out to be another Buddy Ryan/Mike Ditka soap opera because Wade and Jason are classy gentlemen.

and can you spare us the whining and moaning if he does? just spare us.

nothing much more annoying than an "i told you so!' from someone who's never done it.

Great another year with Garret as O.C. in a system that relies on having a smart qb. Looks like another one and done.
