Greg Ellis is grumpy about a lot of things right now. Would one of his gripes be about how often he's dropping back in pass coverage?

"You said that. I didn't say that," Ellis said yesterday. "That's all I can elaborate on that. But, like I said, a lot of things are going on that's not giving us a chance."

By my count, Ellis dropped back into coverage on 13 of the Cowboys' 34 pass rushes (including two plays negated by penalty) in the loss to the Cardinals. Anthony Spencer dropped back twice while replacing Ellis. DeMarcus Ware dropped back a handful of times.


Ellis grumbled a little after he lined up wide to jam Browns TE Kellen Winslow a lot during the season opener, but he said he'd do whatever the coaches wanted. Even if Ellis won't say it on the record, it's clear that he thinks the coaches aren't letting him get after the passer enough.

Of course, it's understandable why the coaches would want Ellis in coverage. He does have more interceptions (one) than all the team's cornerbacks combined.

Well in order to take said job, one has to be healthy. Spence hasn't been healthy in a long time.

I think he is hurt again. Am I right on that? Think I read that yesterday.

My hunch is that we see a lot more of Greg going after the QB now. They will be forced to turn up the heat.

Ellis is our BEST pass rusher next to Ware..It's just freaking stupid to put him in coverage more than he rushes the passer. he might even be better at getting to the QB than ware is. Ellis just knows how to do it. You guys who want Ellis gone are just plain retahted.
