Its too bad b/c I would have rather signed Canty than Hamlin.

True, but the better answer would have been to let both walk. Too many oversatisfied, overpaid veteran players does not create an atmosphere conducive to winning football, IMO. Unfortunately, Jones will never learn a lesson. As soon as he has cap space, he wastes it on average players.

really? not that hamlin is great or anything, but he's solidified our secondary at least against deep balls. we used to get absolutely get burned for deep balls before he got here...the lynn scott/rwilliams years were almost unbearable, it didn't matter who was at corner. teams would just throw deep and either complete the pass or get a flag. once hamlin got here that got a lot better IMO even with cb injuries and scrubs (reeves) and rookies playing.

spears was the better DE this year. i don't think we lose too much with bowen or hatcher going in. canty was solid but unspectacular IMO. much like ayodele was at ILB, replaceable.

I hope we try to re-sign Spears during the season to a cap friendly deal. If Canty can make this much, Spears will too.

Doubt it. Spears was no better than Canty and even though he had somewhat of an average year this season, he was worse before. Hell, alot of us wanted him cut before this season.

Good-bye. Thanks for your service.

Marcus Spears had his best year. He was more consistant than Canty this season. Spears had 17 quarterback pressures and didn't play on third down. Spears gives us size and power against the run. I bet the Cowboys want to keep him.

I've always like Canty more than Spears, as I watched Canty often at UVA, but this past year Spears was definitely the better player. In fact, I'd say Canty regressed in '08.

$50 million for a 3-4 DE?

Yeah, right.

Go talk to the team that screwed up the going rate for D-linemen.

Maybe Count Chocula would be stupid enough to pay ya.

Nobody else will.

Thanks for the memories, don't let the door hit ya!

Canty wants 50mil?

Let's compare him to other 3-4 DEs over the past 2 seasons...

Chris Canty - 80 tackles 6.5 sacks 7 PD
Marcus Spears - 75 tackles 2 sacks 5 PD
Aaron Smith - 90 tackes 8 sacks 4 PD
Brett Keisel - 80 tackles 3 sacks 9 PD
Ty Warren - 94 tackles 6 sacks 0 PD
Richard Seymour - 75 tackles 9.5 sacks 2 PD (in 23 games)
Igor Olshansky - 78 tackles 5.5 sacks 3 PD
Luis Castillo - 72 tackles 4 sacks 2 PD (in 24 games)
Shaun Ellis - 109 tackles 13 sacks 0 PD
Kenyon Coleman - 136 tackles 2 sacks 1 PD
Justin Smith - 151 tackles 9 sacks 6 PD

Nothing spectacular.

Don't tell McMahon that Jerry is the one who really wanted Canty. Bill wanted Barber, so Jerry had to trade back up for Canty.

I like Canty, but for that money, see ya. We'll let Hatcher play and draft a replacement.

Funny how a guy like Canty may not come up as part of chemistry issues with this team, but he's a guy who talked about not feeling wanted and has let his agent take on the mercenary approach to his future.

This team had guys who just got paid and were finished, and it had some guys who just wanted to get paid. But I worry that winning wasn't the biggest priority for a lot of the guys in that locker room.

I completely disagree w/your assessment. Canty was one of the only players who came to camp w/out a contract.

Canty was a team guy through and through, he was really hoping to stay in Dallas, he has said this often enough from last season to now. Don't paint Canty with the same brush as Ellis (constant whining) or Tank ("I'm a free agent").

if you are going to overpay for a d lineman, then throw that money at Haynesworth. I am sure he'd appoligize to Gurode for that kind of jack. :laugh2:

I'd hate too lose him but no way he get's that from Jerry.

Or from anyone else either.

Cantys agent is just startin way high.

Basic business. He'll most likely be back.

C'mon, even I don't think I'm worth $50 mil. Bye, me.

Now, for $2-3 mil per year, I'd have think about it.

But after all the times the Real CC got run over in the run game (first Commanders game, Ravens), if we can't get an equivalent or upgrade in the draft (3rd round or so), that's sad.

Sign Haynesworth for that money,,,,, I am tired of the average to solid players thinking they should be paid all pro money !:banghead:
