DMN Blog: Jerry Jones, Cowboys watching free agency unfold

This year is the worst crop of UFAs I have ever seen, and the guys getting the big deals are simply not worth the money.

I agree with this.

It is horrible.

The only surprise is Williams. Other than that, you can only play a waiting game with the restricted free agents to see what the market suggests. Once one team decides to take the plunge and start giving up draft choices for RFAs, we might start dipping our toes more.

If we move one of our RFAs for a choice, I have no doubt we will go after another at the same compensation level.

If that does not happen, we will probably sit it out. And that is not necessarily a bad thing. This is just not a good group.

Now 2011? It should be a bonanza, especially if there is a CBA in place by then and the old cap system returns.

I would much rather have cap room to play with in 2011 than waste money this year and future years without knowing what will happen.

They should at least talk to Jamal Williams.

i would have agreed with this given his past productivity.
however, given the fact that wade is making this choice, i am fine with whatever he decides. no one knows this scheme and how williams would fit in better than wade.

Its called being selective. This year is the worst crop of UFAs I have ever seen, and the guys getting the big deals are simply not worth the money.

You telling me that Rolle is the best safety in the NFL??? He is now the highest paid, so either he is the best or a team overpaid for him.

Name me one UFA that signed with another team that Dallas should have got into a bidding war for..........I cant think of a single one.
Dead on the friggin' :money:

I agree about the Antrelle Rolle thing. Hes a good player but highest paid safety of all time? Bologna.

I don't have any problem with the Cowboys approach and I agree there really isn't anyone out there worth pursuing, but Jerry kinda sets himself up for criticism when the week before free agency he's crowing to the media about how the Cowboys are going to make big changes in the offseason.

"We're not caught up in the fact that by some definition we had a good season," said Jones, whose team won the NFC East with an 11-5 record and advanced to the second round of the playoffs. "We did plan ahead and get some of our key players under contract. But in the NFL, there has got to be change.

"One of the biggest challenges I've got in my role here is to be an agent of change this year. We have got to look for ways to make changes. That's personnel."

He said we would have about 10 new faces but you gotta think at least 5 or 6 of those faces would come from the draft.

Also some of those guys like Stephen Hodge who were injured all last season will get their opportunity this year.

I think the canidates for new starters would be at the positions of FS, SS, LE, LG, LT.

I like the way the Cowboys are handling this FA. Who is there to sign that is going to help them that badly? Sure, if a young top 2 FS or DB were available. Then I would be a little upset. But, there is nobody out there that will help the Cowboys to the next level. Cowboys have a good team. And it ain't bought, it's been through the draft mostly. I like it.
