Jerry lands final jab on Madame No

Poor Laura Miller is leaving the Dallas mayor's office with egg on her face. Great aim, Jerry!!!

Madame No didn't figure out football was pretty important around these parts -- and to the local economy -- until it was too late. Dallas had first dibs on JerryWorld, but she screwed that up by playing hardball with the rich hick from Arkansas. You might have heard about the construction underway in Arlington.

But Miller was gonna go out in a blaze of football glory anyway, or so she thought when she blabbed last month that Texas Tech and Oklahoma State would move their series to the Cotton Bowl. Too bad the schools hadn't agreed on the deal.

Jerry jumped on the opportunity. He hopped on his fancy jet and made a pitch to Tech bigwigs that they oughta play in his palace. And I'd be willing to bet a nickel that Tech-OSU joins the Cotton Bowl Classic, Big 12 title games and Baylor-Notre Dame as featured attractions at JerryWorld.

"Once Jerry Jones got involved, it became complicated," said Madame No, who probably shares Steve Blow's opinion that Jerry is a "weasel."

Hey, it's not Jerry's fault that Madame No wasn't wise enough to make him a bidness partner. But that is the lasting memory of Miller's stint as mayor.

Too bad.

I would have like that the Dallas Cowboys played in Dallas.

Oh well. I will be there in 2009.

Jerry wanted that as well. Ms Mayor messed up, she played hardball with Jerry and lost out.

Epic mistake by her. A highrise skyline would've been sweet.

It's a freaking sickness.

They (the Dallas media) all sit around in little circles thinking of nicknames for every freaking thing, and then they use each other's.

I've got to say, with habits like that, someone is going to come down with a bad case of AIDs.

We should purge their colony before that goes down.

Agreed...much as I dislike TO I hated reading those goofy nicknames some of them would use.

One thing for a fan to have some nicknames for players (even if they are mean nicknames to a point) but these guys should be beyond that even in opinion pieces IMO.

Today it's fashionable to bash the mayor. As Exxon Mobile stadium opens, perhaps it'll be more fashionable to bash the political system that enables corporate greed.

While you may have a point in this thread you are wrong. Corporate greed had little to do with Ms. Millers gaffe. Ms. Miller thought that playing hardball and having her town closer to Dallas was an ace bargaining chip, until Jerry tinkled in cheerios and went to arlington. As for corporate greed let me know how that works out when you own your own bidness.

when usually only 40% of those eligible to vote do- you keep getting idiots like Miller. Only the most fanatical of voters vote- and they are usally from the far ends of the political spectrum. The candidates and elected officials you endup with is the result. Not to mention the need for lots of money to run.

Its interesting that people still today don't get that Miller was not involved in DALLAS COUNTY negotiations for the stadium.

On one hand you should want younger people to be more involved- but as badly educated and ignorant as all too many young people are, would that help or hurt?

hurt. Young people don't pay enough attention to politics to vote correctly. It will be about who can appeal the most, at the time before they vote.

how do i know? Im 19 and live on a college campus. 9/10 of the people only know of 2 people running for election in 2008. Obama, and Clinton.

We always joke that Laura Miller's final act as mayor should have been completely uprooting and relocating Dealey Plaza outside of Dallas. This way others can experience President Kennedy's assassination while the crumbling of Dallas' economy comes full circle. :D
