These Cowboys have an abundance of players with something to prove.
If silencing their detractors - real or perceived - makes the players on this team a little more focused, a little more committed and a little persistent, then so be it.
Think about it.
You know Romo wants to prove he can win games in December and the postseason. Roy Williams wants to prove he's an elite receiver. Miles Austin and Patrick Crayton want to prove they're each capable of being playmakers.
Tashard Choice wants to prove his performance last December was no fluke, Marion Barber wants to prove he can produce as a starter and Felix Jones wants to prove he can stay healthy after toe and hamstring injuries ruined his season.
Anthony Spencer wants to prove he's not a bust, especially now that Greg Ellis has played his last game with the Cowboys. Keith Brooking wants to prove he's not washed up and Igor Olshansky wants to prove he's not just a guy.
Bradie James wants to prove he's a Pro Bowler and Marcus Spears, a free agent at the end of the season, wants to prove he deserves a long-term deal. Terence Newman wants to prove he's an elite cornerback, Orlando Scandrick wants to prove he's a starter. So does Mike Jenkins.
Ken Hamlin wants to prove he can play at a Pro Bowl level again and Gerald Sensabaugh wants to prove he's a better player than he showed in Jacksonville last year.
You should feel better about the Cowboys maximizing their potential this season. We know that didn't happen last year.
