With undrafted WR Kevin Ogletree sidelined by a knee injury, seventh-round pick Manny Johnson picked a pretty good time to have his best practice as a Cowboy.

Johnson made a tough catch on a deep ball against Mike Mickens early in the practice and finished the session with a flurry. He beat Mike Jenkins for three completions from Jon Kitna on the final drive of the day, causing all kinds of whooping and hollering by the offensive starters on the sideline.

Is that cause for concern about the '07 first-round pick who will play a major role this season? Perhaps. But it's probably just a speed bump for Jenkins, who has had a very good off-season.

It was a significant development for Johnson. He was below Ogletree on the depth chart. Ogletree had been working as the No. 3 receiver with Miles Austin and Sam Hurd nursing injuries.

Johnson has a major opportunity this minicamp with his primary competitors (Ogletree and Isaiah Stanback) for what will probably be the last WR roster spot out with knee injuries. The ex-Sooner seized the opportunity this morning.

I don't have anything to base it on other than a hunch, but I have liked this guy since we got him.

Hope he turns out to be a steal, much like scandrick.

hurd and stanback better recover from these injuries quickly, because other guys will are going to take advantage of their absence. I wouldn't be suprised if both are gone before the regular season. if you can't get on or stay on the field, your useless.

Spend a little more time on getting your **** straight and a little less finding creative ways to mock Roy Williams.

like you - my overall knowledge of him isn't that strong. i watched a few OU games last year and saw him a few times, but never really studied him as a player. i just don't do that very often for any players out there.

that said i was very happy when we picked him in the 7th round. we'll see what he does with his opportunity but in my book we got a steal at that point, now he just has to pan out.

As an OU fan, I watched all the games and this guy stood out nicely. When he went down with a horrific looking dislocated elbow I was bummed because he looked like one of our best weapons. He ended up playing the very next week and made some great grabs even with one elbow all bandaged/harnessed up. His only limitation may be his size,,, and heck, Terry Glenn made a nice career for himself as a little guy, so I'm hopeful for Manny. This team could use a slot speedster...

We could use a little luck at WR bacause I have little faith in Hurd being anything more than servicable and no faith that Stanback will ever amount to anything.

I think MacMahon was talking about Jenkins and put the wrong draft year there.

Anyone else think Manny Johnson could become a Marques Colston? lol. Not really a burner but just really crafty and runs crisp routes? I thought he was pretty polished at Oklahoma.

I'm not basing this comparison because of these reports coming out the last few days. Just like Four I aslo had some weird hunch that he could become a huge steal when we drafted him.

Some good luck will be needed, but I've been very high on this pick from the second he was drafted. I think he's got the potential to be a good #2 and a great #3 down the road. He catches everything, has solid quickness, is tough and MUCH better speed than most guys who catch everything.
