Yes, the normally quiet running back spoke to me this afternoon.

Wow.

Anyway I caught him after he did his interview with ESPN this afternoon, which was aired again this evening. Barber was dead on several points including Terrell Owens.

"I don't cause no controversy, I'm just straight forward," Barber said to The News. "[Critics] are trying to make [Owens] into something he's not. I felt the same way like everybody else but then I met the man. Once you know who he is, he's a great guy."

In an ESPN interview, the running back said he was shocked by the decision to cut Owens.

"I couldn't really believe it," he said. "Its part of the business and you just try to keep on moving from there. It was a shock. I'm sure a lot of people watching felt the same way I did as far as everything that went on last year. He was hoping to put things in the past."

There was locker room tension for a bulk of the 2008 season, most of it surrounding Owens' relationship with several players on the team. An ESPN report said Owens was jealous of tight end Jason Witten's relationship with quarterback Tony Romo.

Owens said he wasn't jealous of Witten or any other player yet the damage was done. Barber said the drama was just too much to overcome.

"I just think during that time the other fellas have to figure out a way to come together as one and make it work as a whole," Barber said. "It starts in the locker room with any team I firmly believe that, and its unfortunate that we couldn't get a hold of it."

A member of the offense said he was a good guy. Not in the way that Ratliff or Ellis were *****ing about it, but I'll take it.

I will take back some posts from earlier yesterday.

Still, a guy that draws that amount of attention, his fault or not, is very troublesome.

yeah, maybe now people like ed weiner werder are happy now and will leave the cowboys alone, better yet, owner jerry jones makes sure that espn with ed weiner werder gets no more news from valley ranch and cowboys organization. In fact, jerry jones bans ed weiner from the cowboys or tells him, i will be the only person your are allowed to talk to on the cowboys.

If you start anything else, i will totally ban you from the cowboys, personally myself. Time for you to shut up ed weiner werner and go bug some other nfl team to get your kicks.

Fault TO for many things.

But ever since he got to Dallas the media was on a mission to break him and the Dallas Cowboys.

Mission Accomplished. They broke TO, Jerry Jones and some of the members of the team.

While TO is to blame - the media will win every time.

After the honeymoon period between Romo and the media has been on a mission to break him too. This doesnt end here.

Romo is gonna get leaned on big time by the media.

Apparently barber couldn't get a hold of many things last season.

It's starting to look like Romo didn't want him around...

Yeah that does say a great deal about the situation but the more I think about it the more I'm convinced this was what Romo wanted...

it is unfortunate. TO could be successfull with the right people around him, like we all could.

but those right people are far and few between and TO wants allowances but seldom gives them.

while it's a shared responsibility, it does mean TO had a hand in it also. that's all.

I don't think it's any secret that a lot of the baggage that comes with Owens isn't necassarily things he asked for or honestly brings on himself. It's the stuff the media harps on because of things in the past. It's part of having a questionable past, I suppose.

TO will land on his feet somewhere and Dallas will be fine.

He was always going to be a magnet for media attention, especially when things aren't going swimmingly. The media racks up ratings through drama, and TO had it in spades. I truly believe that he was a good teammate, but he was never going to avoid the spotlight. Add the fact that he speaks his mind (which I like) and there was going to be a situation (real or manufactured) when they weren't winning.

Puh-leeze.

I wish.

Not going to happen.

That's why I think releasing Owens was pretty dumb. Hacks like Mr. Blue Suit will stick around and do their best to come up with some story that will create controversy. Thinking that it's going to go away because Owens is gone is wishful thinking. We had BS stories, controversy and distractions going around in the Parcells era pre-Owens. And last season when we had a 10 GAME WINNING STREAK and Owens was completely quiet, the local media was about as negative as you would get from a media covering a 3-13 team.

And we still have a QB running away from papparazzi. And WR who shoots off his mouth. A new WR who was known to shoot off his mouth while playing for a team that went 0-16 last year.

Owens wasn't the problem. Now we have an offensive player, one of the team's leaders, going out of his way to say the same thing.

This was always about T.O., Romo, Witten and Garrett. He and MBIII are neighbors and friends, so it isn't much of a surprise that Barber would say that.

Owens has been well liked by many of the players on every team he has been on, including the Eagles. BUT, he has always ended up having issues with his coaches and QBs. That is the same issue as what took place here, so I'm not sure why it is so shocking to some people that it ended this way or that so many players support Owens. We heard the same stuff from Philly, it was just further along and the wounds were much deeper.

For the record, I have never said I wanted Owens to be cut and was hoping that, with a sit down by Jerry, he could come back, shut his mouth and play football. But, I'm certainly not going to pretend that the pattern isn't the exact same as what happened on the previous two teams either. It took McNabb several years to totally win back the lockerroom, I can only hope that by Jerry pulling the plug before it got too toxic that it doesn't take Romo as long to do the same.

Bingo, TO's patterns are obvious and repetitive. He also got #5 sucked in & play along where at least Romo had the good sense to stay out and pick his battles smartly (i.e. TO now gone).

Notice how TO latches on to the defense and those whom he sees as subordinate like Hurd 7 Crayton who he can slowly infect. Bring MB into his fold helps his narcissistic agenda & linees up weapons against QB and QB's friend (TE).

Thankfully this pathetic, self-destructive sideshow is GONE :)
