Wade Phillips just announced tight end Martellus Bennett will not play Sunday against San Diego.

Bennett is suffering from a concussion that occurred against the New York Giants. He has not practiced this week.

Rookie John Phillips will see more playing time than he has all season. Wade Phillips said it was unlikely that Scott Chandler would be called up from the practice squad.

Safety Ken Hamlin was also ruled out with his high right ankle sprain.

Hamlin must have really sprained the hell out of that ankle.

High ankle sprains take a good while to heal.

Maybe we go 3 wide more this game.
I certainly hope not.

The Chargers are poor defending the run.

Phillips might not be the blocker Bennett is, but he's not that far off.

If this turns into a pass-fest, that plays right into San Diego's hands. They aren't good at running the ball and would probably relish the idea of a track meet, especially if our secondary can't handle them.

Garrett will have to control himself if we have a chance to win.

...Which could mean we finally get a chance to see what Ogletree can do as a WR.

I get what you are saying but the Chargers have scored more than 30 in their last 4 games and have not scored less than 21 all season. This may turn into a pass fest anyway..

I like john phillips and I have a hunch he will fit in quite nicely.

and by all means I think we need to stay out of the 3 wide shotgun look also. That is a recipe for disaster sunday I think.

Good thing Phillips has been seeing some action this season and doing a good job when he has entered into the games

Wonder if we bring Scott Chandler up from the PS here? We do run that 3 TE set a bit (some games more than others). Of course, we might use an extra OL in that role.

...on Phillips?

Is he quicker mentally than Bennett? If he is this might be a positive for the team.

I honestly think he is. According to John Garrett, he's smart and attentive. That's a far cry from "high and tight, Martellus!" I would be shocked if there is a noticeable dropoff.

Not so worried about Marty B, but I'd feel more comfortable with Ken Hamlin in the lineup over Alan Ball.

Phillips is very much a guy with limit physical tools but really strong work ethic.

BTW -- when exactly has Bennett this year shown any sort of on-field stupidity?
