12:43 pm The majority of the offensive snaps for the Cowboys this season have been in the two-TE package. With Martellus Bennett sitting out this game, coach Wade Phillips hinted that the Cowboys offensive plan could include more three WR sets, which he feels very good about.
Fistrly, Bennett does not suck, but also, he has not lived up to what the 2-TE set was ever meant to be. What we don't know is whether it is Bennett holding back the productivcity the 2-TE set was suppose to bring, or if it's the 2-TE formation holding back Bennett's produxtivity.
At least we get to soewhat find out this week, per the CBS report above, that Dallas will run more 3-WR sets and less 2-TE sets with Bennett out innjured. I'm happy about this - not because Bennett is out, but because I'm not sold on this 2-TE set. That's because it bunches things inside and has made it easier for teams to rush the passes and runners. Unsurprisingly, that's what the OL struggles with most.
Hopefully with more WRs than TEs lining up, the middle of the field will open up more for Witten, and even Felix Jones. In fact, I would not be surprised to see the offense post its best offensive showing yet - and the majority of that being explained by the more-spread out 3-WR formations employed.
