DMN Blog: Martellus Bennett's Hops

Google is my friend man. Once TO relocated all financial ties with him were severed. However, I do wish him nothing but the best in his future endeavors. ;)

I'm glad to hear that the parting was amicable :) .
Seriously, I am glad that those days of THAT topic are "basically" over. That dominated this board for so long. Now, of course, we have Romo and the draft etc, but it's a little more varied. I wonder what it will be like if we actually win it all? Most on this board would be ecstatic, but I feel like some of the negative people wouldn't know what to do with themselves, you know? I don't mean you. People like that Judas guy and others. They'd probably say we should've won by more or something
Whatever. This season can't get started soon enough...

Winning (especially in the playoffs) cures all my fellow fan. TC will be here before we know it and we'll have plenty to talk about.

It would depend on how far he is from the rim. Like I said, if he's out away from the rim, then yes, it would be an optical illusion.

Look at this photo, is it two 7-footers above the rim, or is it two guards at the 3-point line?

Mario Chalmers, of course, is a 6-1 guard, and he was shooting a 3-pointer. But his hand looks like it's near the top of the square because of the camera angle.

There is a world of difference between the photo you're showing and the one with Bennett.

However, for the record, I think you're partially right in that all three aren't directly underneath the rim so there is some angle work at play.

I'm not saying Bennett can't get above the rim -- he's 6-6 and has a 34-inch vertical. I just think the effect could be exaggerated because of the camera angle.

LOL very nice Adam..But at the end of the day Martellus is 6"6 with a 34 inch vertical..he can hit his elbow on the rim no problem. But i see the point your making.

Its funny to think that if Marty B were a basketball player, he would have to be a shooting guard since hes "only" 6"6. I see him more of a post up, close to the rim kinda player, not a shooting guard.

omg. You haven't seen slamball? It's basically 3 on 3 basketball on steroids. Kinda lame and not my cup of tea...

Thanks for the vid. That was....interesting. I could see kids and teenagers liking that. I give the guy credit for trying to make a game up sort of..I guess...

Are you sure that you're not thinking about slam ball?

;)

I swear I invented that game in my backyard many years before it hit TV.

My cheap little basketball goal had broken off its base so I had to pick where I wanted it to get cemented into the ground. I picked right next to the trampoline and had a few extra feet added to the pole.

We were running that game on a 12-13 foot goal. We wore no pads, we had no rules, our rim was bare and the softest spot to land was on the grass.

Ummm his elbow is at the rim..there's no optical illusion there. Martellus is probably 8"10 with his arms straight up..looks like he's at least 2 feet off the ground..the rim is 10 feet. Do the math.

Here's a new vid of Marty B dunking...

The rim isnt regulation.

Looks like they dropped it to 9'.

The dudes aren't even off the floor and they are almost touching rim.

Dude can jump but it looks like he's playing against Danny DeVito.
Look how far his feet are off the floor though....

LOL..I think when it comes to something that doesn't involve stats to back up his arguments, it gets ugly for Adam.

Come on Slate get that crap off of here, I loved your sig before, now you have to have that mess on here?

That was quick Bleu! Do you have that pic saved? Is that your wallpaper?
Wait a minute. Silly me. Your wallpaper has got a certain popcorn-eatin' someone in it doesn't it?
On a serious note, are you still on his payroll or did that financial agreement dissolve after his relocation to Siberia...err..uhh.. Buffalo. ;)

Hehe....:muttley:

LOL looks like me and my 2 bros playing b-ball, basketball with vicious hits, without the trampoline of course. But we call it gorilla ball.

But look at how far the rim is away in this pic. compared to Marty B's pic. you can tell he was far away, because the rim is so far away. In Marty's pic, the rim and hoop are alot closer to the photographer.

It looks like it could be a bit of an optical illusion. The shooter appears to be near the elbow or even just inside the 3-point line. If Bennett was near the free-throw line or in the middle of the key when he jumped, the camera angle would make it look like he's well above the rim. He obviously has a good vertical, but I think it's exaggerated in the photo.

Looks to me like the shooter is just outside the paint.
