McKelvin penciled in

Albert Breer E-mail News tips

After being quiet on the free agent market, it's become clear that the Cowboys plan to kick the tires on all their options at the cornerback position in the draft.

Troy CB Leodis McKelvin, part of a muddled group at the top of the position rankings, is scheduled to come to Valley Ranch for one of the team's 30 allotted pre-draft visits. The team already has Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie (Tennessee State) and Antoine Cason (Arizona) slated to visit.

With McKelvin to be here, here's our list of the five guys we have confirmed to be coming in for pre-draft visits.

UNLV LB Beau Bell
Arizona CB Antoine Cason
Oklahoma WR Malcolm Kelly
Troy CB Leodis McKelvin
Tennessee State CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie

I like McKelvin alot and unlike DRC, I have actually seen McKelvin play.

I really think in terms of being a nickel DB and a huge factor on punt returns, he'd be the best fit of any of the DB's we could pick. But I am relatively sure we have no chance to draft him at 22. I think he'll easily be gone somewhere between 7-12.

I'm a bit concerned that given the current priority and price tag on cornerbacks, that the Cowboys could be left out of the mix at #22.

I hope I'm wrong.

Well Stash according to some it's all just a "smoke-screen", CB isn't a true need. :D

Yeah, and care to guess what that 'smoke-screen' was created from?

Some people need to put the pipe down.

This team doesn't even have Jockstrap Reeves to kick around anymore......

Oh I know what that smoke-screen was created from/for-- just another person pushing an agenda without regard to the reality of the Cowboy's situation at CB.

You missed it?

DaBoys4Life has a completely irrational post saying that backup running back is the team's highest priority.

It makes for some truly humorous reading if you have time to kill.

I totally agree. This is why I hope we can find some way to trade up for Cromartie or McKelvin. CB is a big need and the elite ones will go fast. We can get a very good RB in the late 1st or even early 2nd round. I Still think we may work out a trade with the Raiders at #4 but that would likely be for McFadden..

Yep. You got it.

It's sad when you see one fan's man love for a potential draft pick be so strong that he'd risk f'ing up his favorite team's draft just to get that player.

Honestly if there is a run on corners that early in the draft, then there is going to be a heck of a player left at #22.

It may not fit our exact need at corner but I honestly could live with say a next tier corner selected with our second, 1st round selection.

I don't like moving up. I'd rather have the draft come to us.
