Michael Hamlin's 4.62 40 time ranked in the bottom half of the safeties at the NFL combine. That didn't stop him running down the fastest dude in the draft.

See for yourself in the above video. It's a reverse to Darrius Heyward-Bey in last season's Maryland-Clemson game, and the 4.3 receiver looked like he was long gone. Much to the surprise of the announcers, Hamlin made the tackle at the 5.

You won't see a 76-yard gain show up on many safeties' highlight reels, but that plays shows that Hamlin carries his pads awfully well and doesn't give up on plays.

Much more to come on Hamlin in tommorow's installment of the draft review.

Looks like Hamlin had a good angle as well as Heyward-Bey slowing down.

No kidding.

Hamlin had a good angle, but you have to like a guy who didn't give up.

As was at the game with my girl friend at the time that was a big Bama fan. That was one of those unforgettable plays

Eh, he had an angle on him. I'm not saying he's not gonna be a good player. But the article makes it sound like Hamlin ran him down from behind, and that's just not the case. Heyward-Bey ran out of field.

Nice play by Hamlin. Good hustle, and certainly not slow.

But that article is all hype.

To be honest, he looks about 4.6 in that video.

Heyward-Bey is not the hardest working player and it looks like he's coasting at the end. Hamlin, as any football worth a darn should, took the proper angle on him.

I'm rooting for Hamlin but this title is False Advertising. Shame on Tim McMahon.

His st8 line speed is good. He supposedly has stiff hips and isn't considered a 'cover' safety. He played better 2007 than 2008.

He was a bargain in the fifth. If he can cover well enough.

Hamlin was easily the best draft pick.

Equal homering...

I would say it was David Buehler.

In all seriousness, I like the Brandon Williams and Mike Mickens selections the most. Hamlin has great value in the 5th round. I felt he was a 3rd rounder at the worst.

Good to know he can run someone down from behind. EXACTLY what I want to see our safeties doing.

McMahon states that Hamlin ran him down from behind. That's exactly what happened. How is that false advertisement?

Hamlin doesn't actually have an angle on the kid until right at the very end. Until that point the kid was running at an angle himself towards the sideline trying to run away from Hamlin.

I'd say the kid wasn't coasting ... he was probably tired from running nearly the entire length and the entire width of the field. That said I think 4.6 is nothing to worry about.

It's hard to say how much of that was a good angle, or Brey tiring down, but either way I like how he kept hustling, didn't give up on the play, and was able to run him down, no matter what the other factors were. I like the never quit attitude on the play.

Actually, he has an angle on him the whole time. And he starts angling towards him about 5 yards farther down the field than Heyward-Bey, who almost runs by him anyway... had he not run out of field. That's not running down someone from behind. That's tackling someone from behind because the advantage you have in field position & pursuit angle allows you to get there before Heyward-Bey makes it into the endzone.

The same thing happened to Miles Austin during the Green Bay game last year, when he got run down by a much slower safety who had the angle on him (because Austin failed to run to the pylon).

The article is all hype.

No, it's not cheating. And I said I like the hustle. I'm also just saying that the article about Hamlin's speed is all hype, because he didn't run Heyward-Bey down from behind. His position on the field is what allowed him to make that play. Not flat-out speed, which the article is trying to imply. I just think the whole premise behind the article is fluffy and grasping.

That's all.
