not surprised, it's not as easy as plug-and-play, it'll probably take him midseason to get into any kind of playing form in our scheme

whats so hard pass block run block pull let pull right push the defender in front of you off the LoS if theres no defender go to the next level.

You have got to be kidding me. Either you love the attention you get from saying idiotic things, or you just aren't very intelligent.

Pat McQuistan is 6'6" and has to relearn playing low now that he's moved to guard again. McQ also has to develop communication with Flo and 'Dre so he can properly identify his man when the defense is shifting around or showing a blitz look.

Big Red is also starting for the first time since '05 as a college senior at Weber State. That's quite a layoff and his conditioning will be put to the test for the first time under game conditions.

Looks like I was wrong. Proctor is getting first team reps. I don't get this move at all.

Holland better get ready fast, because Proctor isn't stong enough to anchor in the NFL and hold up, especially against bigger players like the Browns have. The Browns will knock him back all day and dominate him and take advantage of him having to get constant help in pass protection.

Proctor and Marten, imo, are the two weakest players on the entire team. Erik Walden is on the Chiefs, because Dallas kept two players who will never make a difference in Dallas, imo.

Marten is number 11, and Proctor has to be number 10 in the pecking order. The interior backups on the offensive line are the weakness of this team, and that is where Proctor and Marten have lived.

trading for Holland isn't about just getting ready for wk. 1

I understand your concern, I am too, not only is Proctor kind of soft, he's inexperienced and his technique isnt what Kosier's is, but look at the bigger picture here

Options At Guard
Holland Not Expecting To Be Ready This Week

IRVING, Texas - While the Cowboys signed veteran Montrae Holland to potentially replace injured left Kyle Kosier, it looks like the club will have to go with another option, at least for a week.

Holland, whom the Cowboys received in a trade with Denver, said he doesn't expect to be ready to play for next Sunday's season opener in Cleveland.

"I wouldn't bet on it," Holland said. "It's mental part of it you have to get down. You have to be able to communicate on the line. So I don't know about this week."

The Cowboys worked Cory Procter with the first-team offense during the early portion of Monday's practice that was open to the media. But it was Pat McQuistan who started last week's preseason finale and went three quarters against the Vikings. The Cowboys had also planned on working Joe Berger at left guard, too.

Holland said his playing weight and conditioning is not a problem. While he reportedly was nearly 20 pounds over his 325-pound playing weight when he reported to Denver's training camp about a month ago, Holland said he is in playing shape now.

"I'm good . . . I'm at playing weight already," Holland said. "That's not the issue."

In fact, while the Broncos had him working on his conditioning for nearly two weeks of training camp before he returned to practice, Holland said he should easily fit in with this big offensive line, including the likes of Leonard Davis, Andre Gurode, Flozell Adams and Marc Colombo.

"I'm a big guy. This line is big and strong," Holland said. "Yeah, you look around, I feel like a midget. But it's a perfect opportunity for me. This team could go all the way. You're going to do everything you can to help the team. This team is very talented."

And Holland said he figures the Cowboys will be a much better fit to his playing style than in Denver, where he started all 16 games last season. Fortunately for Holland, his previous four years with the Saints should help him adjust to the Cowboys' line and blocking schemes.

"I've been in an offense similar to this when I was in New Orleans," he said. "I can try to relate back to that. It's nothing like what Denver was. That was all zone (blocking). And the terminology is different. But I can get familiar with it."

One thing Holland is already familiar with is the Texas heat, having grown up in nearby Jefferson, Texas, just east of Dallas.

"My whole family has been Cowboys fans since day one," he said. "Me coming back is a big deal to them. I always wanted to play for them. I thought they were going to draft me when I was coming out of Florida State but it didn't work out. But now I've got my chance to come here. So I'm going to make the most of it."

Even if that process doesn't start this week.

Denver is Denver. And I'm done with that. I've moved on to the Cowboys.

Holland overwhelmed by size of teammates

At 6 foot 2, 322 pounds, newly acquired guard Montrae Holland is a big man. But even Holland felt small when he entered a Cowboys locker room for the first time that includes the likes of 6-7, 340-pound left tackle Flozell Adams and 6-6, 353-pound right guard Leonard Davis.

"I look around," Holland said, "and I feel like a midget."

If things work out for Holland, he'll be lining up soon next to Adams at left guard. Although he ruled himself out of the opener, Holland said he could play against Philadelphia in Week 2.

"I have to have time with the playbook," Holland said. "I have to pick it up and have practice with my teammates. I just can't go out there."

Wade Phillips no doubt will be asked later this afternoon who is going to start at left guard against the Browns. My guess is Pat McQuistan. As the biggest of the three candidates, he has the best shot at helping Pro Bowl center Andre Gurode slow down Cleveland nose tackle Shaun Rogers.

Someone better direct Holland to www.getreadyfast.com. I don't understand not giving McQuistan an opportunity to play. Proctor has done nothing, imo, to earn the opportunity to start at left guard. I thought McQuistan played a good game against the Vikings, and I thought he earned a shot at making some progress at the position when playing between two Pro Bowlers. I just think McQuistan can hold up much better than Proctor could, and that wouldn't take much to do, either.

The hype over WR is funny to watch on here when this is our biggest concern.

Completely agree. I loved this trade for what it means to the Cowboys long term. It's to bad it didn't happen a couple of weeks ago but it is what it is. By the time Kosier returns, he may have to fight to get back on the field. That can't be an altogether bad thing.

I do see this happening tho. He's bigger, stronger, and just as mobile as Kosier. He's also HH type of olinemen. It wouldn't be shocking if he replaced Kosier permanently. Kosier would be a OUTSTANDING backup.

Kosier can fill-in at every spot in OL except center. If Holland wins the backup job at OG, hopefully Kosier learns center so we can boot Procter off the active roster.
