Terence Newman: 'I'm not worried at all'

Terence Newman broke his post-groin strain silence by speaking with East Texas radio legend David Smoak, the KTBB-AM host best known for his chili-cookin' ability.

"I'm not worried at all," Newman told Smoaky. "It's not that severe of an injury. It's more right now, being so early, you don't want to rush to get back and then have to deal with something else down the line. A lot of times, one injury can lead to another injury if you do rush back, because you're compensating one way or another, so we're just taking our time, letting it heal, and trying to get ready towards the end of camp."

Read more from Newman here or just tune in to Smoaky's show this afternoon.

I am a lot more comfortable with Jenkins filling in than I was with Reeves last season.

If Adam Jones is reinstated then we should be able to deal with injuries at the position without a huge drop off, unlike in previous seasons.

Wade called it "significant" and TNew says "it's not that severe."

In any case we have the depth to cover for him. The young guys can get more reps during his absence.

It's good to hear that TNew isn't too worried. He seems confident that it won't be too long.

After 3-4 weeks, he should be fine. Even if it takes 5-6 weeks, it doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things. I think he'll be ready for the regular season, which is what counts.

Are you afraid of your shadow too?

Newman will be ok. Last season is in the past, let's deal with the here and now.

Him being out for three weeks is not a good thing. It happening now instead of in the season is fine but still. Even Newman said that it took him a while to get back into the game just after a couple weeks away from it. Now those couple weeks will be right before the season.

Although I do feel a lot better knowing Adam and Jenkins are here, in addition to Scandrick.

He rushed back last season and as he described that led to another injury. I think they are handling it well and that he will be fine in the long run.

Actually, I remember Newman being a bit more concerned last season.

I even remember him somberly stating that he didn't have much choice in the matter (when asked about being rushed back), which definitely seemed to imply that someone (*cough* Jerry) was rushing him back before he was fully healed.

So yes, I do think it means something that he is optimistic this time around. I feel fairly confident that he'll be good to go by September 7th.

A groin strain is a completely different animal than plantar fasciitis. He'll be fine. This is not something that typically lingers like PF.

Like I said in another thread-at the very least, be glad that we drafted Jenkins instead of DeSean Jackson with our #28.

Newman will be fine. But at the very worst, we have some nice depth now.

Sooner or later, the Chicken Littles always surface...

Terry Glenn said the same thing this time last year.

It's not the end of the world but I think a little concern is warranted.

Glenn injury and what Newman is going through is 2 different worlds. Newman has a minor injury that it appears some are making it out to be more than it is. With some rest Newman should be just fine.

Glenn's was a minor injury when it first happened too. He was going to miss a practice or two. Then a week. Then "we're just playing it safe". Then surgery to be out 6-8 weeks. Then his Cowboys career is over.

Do I think this is the case with TNew? ABSOLUTELY NOT.

But there is reason to be concerned with an injury like this even if everyone is saying it's no big deal. That being said, let's hope it's our biggest concern this whole camp.

Glenn has a degenerative knee problem it was not minor to begin with

I can't tell someone if they should be concerned we all react differently to different news as for me no I'm not concerned about Newman this is football and this is a common injury that has happened at the start of camp which should allow him ample time to recover before we hit the regular season.

I hate to tell you we will have other bumps and bruises as all teams do it is part of the game of football. Players learn to play with these aches and pains early on and those who can't never make it this far.
