only 2 defensive players....

I like Drew Pearson a lot, but not sure he should make this list.

I really like picks #1 and #2.

You know it's really tough to mix players with non players. I thought this was going to be a players list.

Surprised nobody here mentioned Jimmy Johnson.

if it's based upon contribution, Jerry Jones should be #1 on this list

I'd put him at #2 right behind Landry my self
I couldn't put him ahead of Lilly, but I think he's every bit as important as Aikman and Smith were.

Danny White should be on that list. He shouldn't be high, but he should be on the list. :(

I'd put Danny in the top 50 maybe. His loss of those CC games hurts him too much.

Tex probably should be in the top ten. Defensive players are always ranked too low IMO but that's reality. Should Staubach be ahead of Aikman who never lost a SB? I would but I could argue otherwise.

The absence of Quincy Carter makes the validity of this list very suspect.

I don't like these lists where they include coaches, general managers, owners, etc.

I think it should just be the players. It gets foggy when you start trying to include people that don't actually play.

This is how I would go:

1. Bob Lilly (Mr. Cowboy, first draft choice, first in Ring of Honor, first in Hall of Fame, maybe the best DT to ever play the game, Landry called him the best player he had ever coached).

2. Roger Staubach

3. Emmitt Smith

4. Troy Aikman

5. Tony Dorsett

6. Randy White

7. Michael Irvin

8. Mel Renfro

9. Don Meredith

10. Drew Pearson

Honorable Mention: Rayfield Wright, Larry Allen, Chuck Howley, Cliff Harris, Darren Woodson, Lee Roy Jordan, Harvey Martin, Cornell Green, David Buehler, Bob Hayes.

These types of list are always subjective and very debatable. I would shuffle a guy here and there and maybe move a guy or two out and in. I'm sure several people will get honorable mention during the program. With so many people contributing to this franchise over the years it's tough to squeeze them into a top ten list.

Still, ESPN is Stupid for other reason. But I still think ignoring your all time sack leader is insane.

The All-Time leading rusher, the man with the second most TD's (1st rushing) ever,.... is only 5th on that list? An argument can be made that Emmitt was the best RB ever... but is only the 5th "greatest Cowboy"..... I'm thinking more like 2 is a better fit... hard to put him in front of Landry.

I agree....Emmitt gets zero respect and it's baloney. One of the most complete backs ever...if not THE most.

Exactly, you'll never make a list that will keep everyone happy.

Just out of curiosity, though, I can't wait to see the Texans top ten list. :)

IMO Tex or Landry could be #1 or #2. No way Tex should be that low on the list.

I agree, best Cowboy should be ranked by promoter/ambassador of the Cowboys

Hard to argue for the most part, but how do you justify not including Jerry Jones?

It would've been more appropriate for NFL Network to have come up with a Top 20 or 25 list instead of a Top 10. Too many Cowboys fit the bill.
